How long can a instagram video be?

I’ve uploaded a 19-minute Reel before, so I think the max is around 20 minutes. But anything over 3 minutes usually won’t get recommended to non-followers, so shorter Reels are still better for reach.

Maximum length is not as important as retention ability. instagram allows vdeos to be longer in length, however when it comes to getting views and growinng an audience, short videos with good opeining hooks tend to work better since people will watch them all the way to the end.
 
The limits have changed over time so it is always worth checking the latest app updates For most creators I think shorter videos with strong retention perform better even when longer uploads are available
 
It depends on what your content is, it is best to have a hook and know about view retention. It's important that 90% of the video is watched by most of the viewers.

As instagram is shorts/reels based platform so videos should also be short. In my opinion instagram video should be about 1 minute maximum, because people use it just for fun and scroll very fast while watching reels on instagram. So it is little bit tough to engage people more then one minute but if your posting quality or attractive stuff then it can possible to increase the video length and engage the audience more then one minute.

Instead of focusing only on duration keep the content engaging and concise viewer retention usually has a bigger impact than video length. Instagram video length depends on the format your using so its worth checking the latest limits in the app.

the exact number may vary depending on the place where the video is being uploaded. However personally, i would not use the limitattion set by Instagram as a parameter for choosing the videos length. rather i would base my choice on the time requirred to convey the message without losing the audiences attention.
