In marketing creatives, which colors tend to work best?

This matches what I have seen too, high contrast and simplicity usualy beats a pretty color palette. One thing I would add is that it helps to test button color against your specific background rather than assuming a color that worked on one lander will work everywhere, contrast relative to the page matters more than the color itself in isolation.
