Article was recently published and is now indexed, but it is not ranking. what should i prioritize looking into?

If the article is already indexed. you should give a little more time before making big changes . Then check whether you are targeting the right keyword, improving the content quality, and adding a few relevant links. New articles often take a while to start ranking.
 
How recently? If it's only been a few days or weeks, I'd be patient. New content often takes time to settle before you can properly judge its ranking potential.
 
Check keyword difficulty first bro if its too high u wont rank anytime soon without backlinks.

this means that google "likes" your page, but it doesn't fully trust it yet. I'd figure out a way to boost the trust and authority of both that page, and of the entire site overall.

More specifically, I'd work on...

- strengthening the topical cluster with more and better content (I do hope that you've used the skyscraper / topical clusters technique, this seems to be the most important content structure in SEO lately... at least for small / fresh sites, big ones are obviously exempted from many SEO rules that affect the little guy)

- strengthening / improving the internal links both to, and from that page to other pages within its main silo (category / cluster)

- strengthening the authority of that page, as well as of the entire site by getting quality AND relevant backlinks from other pages or sites in the same niche, or which cover the same, or similar content to the page of your site that got indexed

- strengthening the trust of that page, as well as of the entire site by getting traffic in other ways, as well as getting quality and constant social signals from real accounts with lots of engagement, from sites like TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Reddit...
 
Check your keyword difficulty first because you might be trying to rank for a term that’s way too hard for your site's current power, if the competition is low, look at your onpage seo and make sure you’re actually answering the search intent better than the guys on page one, sometimes you just need to wait a few weeks or throw a couple of niche edits at it to see any real movement.
 
give it some time since it is recently published, check your keyword difficulty and make sure your internal linking and content covers the topic completely.
 
If the article was recently published give it some time first. I would review keyword targeting search intent content quality and internal links. New pages often take weeks or even months before they start ranking consistently
 
It is important to look at backlinks and authority. new articles often struggle to rank until they get some external refrences or social shares.
 
look at on-page SEO like title, headings, and content depth, sometimes pages are indexed but not strong enough compared to competitors.
 
Been there, felt that pain before. Stuff I tried was making my page load faster and giving my post a quick once-over for missed typos, lazy headings, or wonky meta tags. Sometimes I’d find a low-hanging keyword or two worth sprinkling in. Also, dropping a link on Reddit or Quora sometimes gave my article a kick in the pants traffic-wise while waiting for Google to catch up.

the first thing that i would do is check whether the page has any impression on google Search Console. If the page has an impression but no clicks i would consider changing the title nd meta description. Otherwise if the page has very low impressions i would consider impproving the depth of content, search intent nd internal linkking
 
Check your title and meta description. A small change there can sometimes help improve visibility.

Depends if it's a few days or weeks that isn't ranked that's normal. Just wait it out for 1-2 weeks.
 
Check the keywords you may want to rank for lower competition keywords instead of big competition ones. If is to competitive will be hard to rank for
 
Look at your title, headings, and search intent. Make sure your article matches what people are actually searching for. Even small changes to the content can improve rankings over time.
 
Check keyword intent and on-page structure first, then backlinks and content depth.
