What to look for when 301-expired domains

Hi

So regarding redirecting (301) an expired domain, what is the main criteria to look for? for example if im running an website in forex trading and find expired domain with many links aimed towards it (Dr10-30) but in the exact same nische and relevant keywords (forex trading related), is that enough to actually make the decisions to re-direct the domain?

Or should i also then look deeper into the sites that are aimed at the potentiall redirected domain?, looking at traffic, spam score and dr, or is it enough that the sites are in the same nische (maybe pbns) to make the redirect ?

I would check backlink quality first, not just DR or niche match, because a lot of expired domains have spammy links.

I would not base my judgment solely on DR, backlinks, or niche relevance. i would take some time to review the history of the domain, the quality of refering websites, patterns in anchor texts used nd whether or not the links appear natural nd not manippulated. A website may have an attractive profile but still be sending out negative signals.
 
Would it matter if the websites aimed towards the expired domains has traffic or not?
 
Niche relevance is important but before using 301 redirect always check the backlink profile, anchor text and the domains history. A domain looks good but it may has hidden problems, so this quick audit can saves you.
 
For me relevance is only one part of it I would also check the domain history backlink quality and whether the links are still live A relevant domain with a poor history is usually not worth the risk
 
Niche relevance is definitely important but I wouldnt base the decision on DR alone I'd also check the backlink profile anchor text traffic history spam score and the domain's previous use

A relevant expired domain with natural backlinks is usually a much safer and more effective choice for a 301 redirect

The Biggest factor is topical relevance, but I would not redirect based on that alone, I'd also check the backlink profile for spam, PBN footprints, and whether the link's are still indexed and likely to pass Value.
 
Same niche is good, but i'd still chek the backlink quality, spam score and if the links are real, not just the DR.
