Is traffic history more important than backlinks?

really comes down to what you are building. if you just want to redirect power then yeah links are king. but if you plan to rebuild the site you need to make sure the history is clean. too many domains look amazing on paper but got hammered by spam updates years ago and will never rank again. always check the wayback machine first to see what was actually on there.

I’ve always wondered how much weight traffic history carries compared to backlink profiles. Has anyone tested websites with strong traffic but fewer backlinks versus sites with many backlinks and lower traffic? Real examples would be useful

Hi, what I think is that in long run strong traffic and less backlinks are quite helpful, but if we rely on backlinks more it helps but for short term. The best way is moderation between both; Gray hat SEO......

@Jubbly SEO i have run tests on this and honestly traffic history is too easy to fake these days. a lot of auction sellers run bot traffic or rank for zero-search volume junk keywords just to make the SEMrush graph look pretty. a clean backlink profile from real sites is much harder to fake and gives you a solid foundation. but like @The WP Nerd said, if the history is dirty with spam redirects, even the best links wont save it. i always look at the link quality first then check wayback to make sure it wasnt turned into a PBN or a casino site.
