My Reddit Account Keeps Getting Low Engagement – Is Karma the Main Reason?

I understand that Reddit values account history and reputation but I am confused about how much karma and account age actually matter.

Questions for experienced people:

  • How important is karma for Reddit marketing?
  • What is the best way for a new account to build trust?
  • How long should someone wait before using Reddit for business purposes?

I would say, karma matters, but not as much as people think. It helps build credibility and gets you past some subreddit filters, but good participation matters more

You should start with comment first, join discussion, and be active in different subreddits. Don't jump straight into posting promotional content

There is no exact number, but I would spend a few weeks building history naturally before doing anything business related. It makes a big difference in how the content is received
 
Karma and account age do help a bit with trust and visibility, but real engagement mostly depends on how useful your post is, where you post it, and how naturally you behave like a normal user.
 
I think a lot of people overestimate the importance of karma and account age. Karma and account age help, but they are not everything. On reddit the best way to build trust is by commenting regularly, participating in discussions, and understanding subreddit culture. In my experience, there is no fixed waiting period before using reddit for business purposes. Focus on becoming a genuine contributor first, and the engagement usually follows.
 
Karma actually matters quite a bit tbh, but mostly just to bypass automod filters. @Yoru Akira most of the decent subs use automoderator to shadow-remove posts from accounts with low comment karma, usually under 100 or sometimes 500. i learned this the hard way last year when none of my threads got any views... turned out they were all getting deleted instantly. age is the same, some subs autodelete if you are under 30 days old. once you pass those basic thresholds though, having 50k karma doesnt make your marketing any more effective. at that point it is just about whether your copy fits the sub culture or looks like spam.

Let me answer this in a user's perspective - as a normal user

When I see the comment, if it is relevant, straight to the answer, or sarcastic, I will upvote. It doesn't matter the age, karma etc.

You should mimic a real user and engage with pics community, world news, Netflix, etc. If you're going to use your account on the first day itself for business purposes, watch out for the ban hammer!

At least a month if you want to build a good quality account.
 
Karma helps but the bigger lever is timing. Build comment karma first (comments are basically ungated), and comment early on Rising posts so you ride their momentum instead of posting into a dead feed. Also check your profile logged-out, low engagement is often a silent filter, not the audience.
 
karma only matters til you clear the automod threshold, past that a bigger number does nothing for your engagement. whats usually killing it is timing and the sub not the account, i comment when the sub is actually active and hit new/rising. same comment 3 hours late gets buried no matter how much karma you have

1) Karma is a metric of how good are your answers.
2) Engage consistently and giving value to others
3) I'd give it 2-3 months before you even start THINKING of putting your links.
 
I think building trust on Reddit takes time. Answer questions, share useful information, and let the account grow naturally.
 
Karma and account age both work on Reddit, but they are not the only factors that decide engagement. I would say karma helps open doors, but relevance, consistency and community trust are what drive engagement on Reddit.
