Am I the only one who doesn't enjoy ultra-realistic games?

What made games great was that they took you away from real life and let your imagination run wild.

For the past 10 years or so, it feels like games have become so focused on realism that they all seem the same and kind of boring to me. That was the real escape method to me.

That's why games from the '90s and the early 2000s still make me feel good.

I feel you man.

The last game I really enjoyed was hunniepop and the graphics aren't ultra realistic.

Just played moment ago Yuri´s Revenge and yesterday Heroes of Might and Magic 3!

The graphics are good, and these two games share the concept of having just a single level. This makes it possible to control how much time you spend playing.
Of course many times when you play Heroes of might and magic, the scenario may take more that 3 hours

But yeah many games have such good graphics that I don't know what I am just looking. I want to relax my eyes and low-quality graphics games give that more than the new games.

I think a lot of people feel the same way. Older games focused more on creativity, unique worlds, and gameplay ideas rather than trying to replicate reality. Realism can look impressive, but it doesn’t always create a memorable experience. Sometimes a strong art style and imagination are what make a game truly stand out.

For me, the writing has to be good. That is my most important requirement. I have played many "realistic games" with bad writing and not liked it. I have played "non-realistic" games with good writing and loved them such as Bioshock or Hades.

I think ultra-realistic games are cool, but it's just that the perception of the game is very dependent on the entire game design.
I can equally enjoy ultra-realistic games if i like the "vibes". The last such game was The Withcer 3
And so - i constantly get the same level of pleasure in Stardew Valley, lol. Pixel graphics, simple gameplay but really the most meditative and soothing game, Moreover, i met with SV completely by accident and was very surprise that it was so drawn for me
I just think it's worth trying different genres, because limiting yourself to a specific genre can lead to a lack of vatiety
For example i prefer play strategy games and city-building simulators but i really enjoyed playing in Baldur's Gate which was a game that "discovered the year" for me
