I have jlrecently started my journey into looking into KDP with AI and I really want to make good books. So I thought I would see what experience people have on here.

For those that have done KDP with and without AI what’s been your experience?

Tell me all good and bad

Did you go Low /MID/High Content?

and I would be really interested to hear from people who went wide and published a lot of books on different subject and those that went deep and got stuck into one topic.

What are some pitfalls I should look?

What don’t the YouTube gurus tell?

Only thing I would say is lookout for and don't use other peoples material. Think independent. Set the pace and trend to your style.
I know someone that done ok on KDP, they published lots of on trend low content though, and coloring books.

Do you mean using other people’s templates and designs or more like be wary of plagerism?

Yeah other peoples templates, and other peoples content. I got banned after a good career on amazon many years ago, and it came down to my fault of plagiarizing what other other people were designing.

Be original, and have a branded homepage name that you can link to in your books too.

For me i just deleted my ebook/paperback thats listed on amazon and many other places, as it was shit quality, it was chatgpt focused, and after being proud of first completing it, i realized i don't want this book representing me. I'd rather start again and make quality fresh fiction content, as then i can write organized lore, and then fill in the gaps with my imagination, story telling, and humor. I want something i can get my teeth into, that will be also worthwhile and enjoyable for my readers.
 
AI is great for speeding things up, but the final quality still depends on your edits.

More books doesnt always mean better results. Understanding what readers are looking for is where most of the work happens.
 
I published several low/no content books and 3 fiction novels. I made some money but not much. I realised later that nonfiction pays better. I couldn't spend more time on KDP though. If I start publishing again, I'll stick to a niche and focus on nonfiction books.

I believe non fiction is the way to go as well. I think the ceiling is higher with non fiction but way tougher to get into.

I saw a stat recently that 75% of profit for publishing houses comes from legacy books. A book nonfiction like say influence can be sold for decades.

That makes a lot of sense. Be horrible to commit time and energy to writing a book with no interest in it.

I suspect that there is quite a bit of initial work to be done to get the book(s) known.

I agree. Any advice on what to try?

I almost feel like it should be done at the same time as creating the book.

One thing I have seen is tik tok looks popular for authors
 
workbooks, planners, guided prompts are typically better for conversion than pure low content because it promises an outcome but till needs decent originality and variety in the exercises.
 
I'm considering giving KDP a try, so I'd love to hear some real experiences. How long did it take you to get your first consistent sales, and what was the biggest challenge when you were just starting out
