This crossed my mind today.........I think people are overestimating Domain Authority.
It's useful for comparing sites, but I've seen lower-DA websites consistently outrank higher-DA competitors because they better satisfy search intent and cover topics more thoroughly.

How are you all approaching this?

People are considering the AI overview rankings and mentions more than the site Authority now, I think it takes time for people again to consider DA, AS and trut authority of the sites

I agree. Domain Authority is helpful for comparing websites, but it does not determine rankings. I have seen lower DA sites outperform stronger ones simply because they match search intent better and provide more useful content. In the long run, topical authority and a solid internal linking structure usually make a bigger difference.

I think people sometimes give too much importance to DA even though it's only a third party metric....a relevant backlink from a trusted website often brings more value than chasing a high DA number alone....

Google doesn't use DA, therefore what you're experiencing is correct, if a website satisfies search intent better it will also rank better.

DA is a useful third-party metric for comparison, but Google doesn't use it as a ranking factor. I've also seen low-DA sites outrank stronger domains by matching search intent better, covering the topic more thoroughly, and providing a better user experience. In the long run, topical authority and content quality seem to have a much bigger impact than chasing a higher DA score.

i think DA is useful as a reference, but it shouldn't drive every seo decision. a relevant website with quality content and real organic visibility is often a better choice than a high DA site with weak overall performance

Same Experience here, A high DA might open the door, but it does not guarantee rankings, If the page answer's the query better, it can still beat bigger Competitors.

We can't estimate site authority based on DA and DR. They might probably be using PBNs that block crawlers.

It’s a useful shortcut but people treat it like a ranking guarantee which it isn’t. seen plenty of DR20 sites outrank DR60 competitors just by covering a topic deeper.

DA is useful and I always use it whenever I process link lists and build links. I consider it, but it's also like other metrics - everything can be manipulated, just like anything else.

That's an interesting perspective.
In this transition period DA may not be a Google ranking factor, but overall site authority and trust are still critical. AI can change how information is presented, but it still needs reliable sources to generate answers.

That's a fair approach, but I've had good results building links from lower-DA sites that had genuine audiences and strong topical relevance. In many cases, those links performed better than links from high-DA websites.

I think DA is useful for quick comparisons, but it does not tell the whole story, A well optimized page that answers the user's query can easily beat a site with a much higher DA.

I agree that domain authority plays a role, but it is not the only factor that determines rankings.
