you were starting from scratch today with no audience, no clients, and a really small budget, what online income method would you go after first?

Would you pick SEO, freelancing, affiliate marketing, content writing, e-commerce, or something else?

I’d love to hear what you’d choose and why. I think it could really help a lot of beginners who are just getting started.

Freelancing or e-commerce. Realistically speaking, I would do both because building a client base takes time and not either one of them would take enough of my time starting out from 0 since both plants needs watering.

Freelancing first for cashflow, then reinvest into SEO. Trying to do SEO from $0 is a 6-month wait before you see anything. At least freelancing pays week 1. Pick one high-demand skill (not 'social media management' — that's oversaturated), learn it in 2 weeks, and start pitching. Once you've got $500-1k saved, start building an affiliate site on the side.

Probably affiliate marketing since I've decent budget and capital to start.

agree with mnsory on cashflow first, but id add one filter to the skill you pick: choose one where the work you do for clients quietly builds your own machine. cold email / lead gen is the cleanest example, the domains, warmup and copy you set up for a client is the exact same infra you point at your own offer once you have capital. so the freelance gig isnt just cashflow, its getting paid to build the thing youll use for yourself later. skills with no reusable asset (generic va work) trap you trading time forever. whats the one skill youd learn in 2 weeks if you had to start monday?

I’d start with freelancing. It’s the fastest way to get to first income with $0 because you’re trading a skill for money, then you can later scale into SEO, content, or affiliate marketing once you have cash flow.

Selling accounts and family invites by taking advantage of geo pricing. Super easy way to earn the first money for starters.

If I had to start from $0 again, I'd focus on learning a high-income skill like SEO or copywriting and offer services on freelance platforms. Once I had steady income, I'd build my own website or digital business for long-term growth.

Freelancing, no question. SEO and affiliate take months, but you can land a $50 gig in a weekend. Pick a boring skill people actually pay for – cold email writing, CapCut editing, even organizing messy Google Drives. Check r/forhire, Upwork, do the first few jobs cheap for a review, then raise prices. Once cash is coming in, then play the long game with niche sites. First priority: pay the bills fast.

E commerce I’ve made 7 figures

I would have to know why I am starting again. Otherwise my answer would be repeat what I am doing and maybe write a memoir

You can start with freelancing work. If you have good skills and communication skills you can definitely start.

Use your skills or learn some so. Freelancing or Software servicing. Anything else is a backup.

Resell Smm panels, create a page on Instagram where people desire such services so much, and start by messaging users who indicated needing such service from big page's comment boxes.

I'd probably start with freelancing. It has the lowest upfront cost, you can earn while learning, and the skills you build can be used later for SEO, affiliate sites, or even your own business. Once I had a steady income, I'd reinvest it into long-term projects.

Google Ads affiliate with brand keyword bidding on SaaS tools. The logic when you have almost no budget: bid on brand terms for software with affiliate programs that nobody else is targeting. Most small SaaS companies don't run their own brand campaigns, so you're the only bidder. when I started doing this, CPC was under $0.20 on some programs because there was literally zero competition. That's not a typo. the people clicking those ads already know the product, already want to buy you're just capturing intent that exists without having to create it. no content, no audience building, no waiting months for SEO to kick in. The model: find programs with recurring commissions, check if the brand terms are uncontested, run a small test budget, see if it converts. Most won't. A few will print money until the company figures out they should be defending their own brand. then you move to the next one. @marcotwzrd2 makes a good point about building reusable infrastructure. Same applies here the account structure, keyword research process, and landing page setup you build for one program is 90% transferable to the next. It's not just cashflow, you're getting better at the skill with every rotation.
