Google's AI Overviews have been around for a while now, and I'm curious what everyone is seeing.

Have you noticed any real increase or decrease in organic traffic since they became more common?

For those still growing, what's working best right now?

Targeting long-tail keywords?
Building topical authority?
Refreshing old content?
Something else?

AI overviews mostly reduce clicks on simple informational queries but they do not necessarily hurt all traffic. I had better results focusing on long tail keywords and updating existing pages to match intent more closely. Building topical authority across a cluster of related content seems to help more than targeting isolated keywords.

Instead of publishing more content, I have been working on internal links and updating older pages.
I think that is been better than creating new posts.

I don't know much about overview from Google, but on Bing, nothing much. Especially if you have an informational site. I mean the user already got what they wanted from the overview.

Internal linking keep paying off.

Overall Ive seen AI Overviews reduce clicks for many informational queries even when rankings stay the same, the sites Ive seen continue to grow are the ones targeting topics where users still want to visit the source for deeper information.

Whats working best for me is building topical authority, refreshing older content, improving internal linking and focusing on long tail keywords with clear search intent, Ive also found that creating original insights, case studies and content based on real experience tends to perform better than generic AI generated articles since those are harder for AI Overviews to replace.

never clicked on anything after reading the overview if the overview is good enough
that shit just works to steal content from creators, then, there is no need to read any blog post

AI overview tend to reduce clicks on simple informational queries but they do not affect everything equally. I had better results focusing on long tail keywords and building topical clusters instead of isolated pages. Refreshing older content also seems to help maintain visibility in some areas.

I think internal linking is getting overlooked.Making it easier for both users and search engines to find related content has helped more that I expected. Moreover, unique content also matter instead of just popular topics.

Informational sites targeting broad keywords are definitely seeing a traffic drop due to zero-click searches, but transactional and long-tail terms are actually gaining high-intent clicks. Building tight topical clusters and writing short, direct Q&A blocks right under your H2s works best to steal those citations.

If users get everything they need from the AI overview, why would they visit the website? In my experience, the overview usually gives me everything I need.

The whole AEO/GEO thing is a lot of BS - because those AI summaries are designed to keep people on the platform vs. clicking a link.

Google, social media platforms and AI are all focused on increasing their MAU (monthly active users) because that's what investors and advertisers care about. So they want to keep the traffic by answering the user's questions, rather than sending them offsite.

There are some niches where it may be helpful (specifically tools), but info and content sites will lose traffic from this mostly.
