What black hat SEO mistake cost you the most?

i learned the hard way that shortcuts don't always save time chasing cheap automated links ended up costing more in cleanup than if i'd focused on fewer higher quality backlinks from the start

Biggest mistake I made was trusting a bunch of cheap link packages that looked fine on paper but were all from the same spam networks

At first rankings moved a bit then everything dropped hard after the next update and it took months to clean up

Now I only care about relevance and real traffic not bulk metrics

And the main thing that I realized was that one should not rely on the quick burst of links without any muscle to back up the content because even though it works at first, it will not last long.
It means that without consistency of on page elements and links, there is no use.
 
The biggest lesson for me was chasing quick wins instead of building a solid site first even when rankings improved temporarily they didn't last because the foundation wasn't strong

Focusing too much on a single niche that ends up poor profitability, and for some reasons, some difficult-looking niches ended up ranking faster than easier-looking ones, go figure how luck-based SEO is really these days.

As a beginner i learned that trying shortcuts can waste a lot of time now i focus more on good content proper site setup and patience slow progress feels better than fixing mistakes later

Biggest one I've seen bite people is blasting cheap PBN links straight at the money site instead of buffering through a tier. Feels fast but it invites a manual action that takes months to recover from. Slow and diversifed wins long term.

Honestly, buying some links from a highly ranked user here without carefully scrutinizing their offer. The links they created were extremely spammy. Fortunately, we site for which the links were created was a test, but the whole ordeal cost $250, a very high price to pay to relearn the lesson to casrefully check what you're buying into. Btw, I tried reporting them, but did not really know how to use the platform and add the proof in time (apparently there's a time limit on reports) so they deleted my report and did nothing to that user. So, just be careful with anything you buy into.
