SEO vs Social Media – What’s Better for Blogging?

Hi everyone,
I’m confused about whether to focus on SEO or social media for growing my blog.
Which one gives better long-term results?
Or should I do both at the same time?
Looking forward to your advice
SEO is better for long-term traffic because it keeps bringing visitors over time. Social media is faster but short-term since traffic stops when you stop posting.

Best option: use both,SEO for long-term growth and social media to get quick traffic and attention.

I’ve found that leaning on SEO keeps my blog from feeling like a hamster wheel, while social gives it little boosts when I need eyes fast. I stick to a loose 70-30 vibe because it keeps things steady without burning me out. One thing that helped me a lot was repurposing social posts into keyword-focused pages so the work pays off twice.

Seo provides long-term results for a blog because organic traffic continues to grow if the content is properly optimized. Social media is great for building an audience, but traffic depends on staying active at all times. Use social media to promote your content while focusing on seo for long-term growth. In my opinion, the best approach is to combine both strategically.

Focus on SEO for long term, us of social media to get quick and short term visitors to promote your content. Ideally, combine SEO for lasting growth and social media for boosts visibility fast.

I faced this too, for me SEO gave me steady traffic, but social media helped me actually talk to my readers. now I do both, and it feels like they complement each other perfectly.

SEO is way better long term in my opinion because old posts can keep bringing traffic for years. Social media is good for faster attention but you kinda have to keep feeding the algorithm nonstop. Best combo is probably using social media to push your blog while your SEO slowly builds up in the background.

It depends on Nishe. Some are especially for search engines, some for SM, and some for both.

I think both are just as important, to build trust use SEO and for traffic use social media

It is not a good idea to pick only one. The way that works best is generally a combination of SEO and social. With SEO, you can establish a consistent flow of traffic, while with social media you can share your content, create a following, and get your first visitors. Also, social media can give you an idea of which topics people like the most so that you put your effort into SEO content.

But if you are a newbie, concentrating most of your effort on SEO is advisable, and a small part on one or two social media platforms. Trying to be everywhere at once is not something I advise.

Seo is better for long-term passive traffic but social media is great for getting an immediate boost while you wait for google to rank you, you should do both, using social signals to tell google your site is alive, just don't let social media take up all your time or you'll never build the search rankings that actually last.

I kinda treat SEO like planting seeds and social traffic like tossing confetti. Both have their moments. What helped me was picking a few social platforms I actually enjoy so it doesn’t feel like a chore, then putting most of my brainpower into posts that can age well in search. That way I’m not stuck on the hamster wheel of posting every day just to stay visible.

If you do SEO, it takes a long time... And if you do wrong thing... That long time would be wasted..

Or when google core update hit, your website may gone from first page

If you do social, you can build following, but you need to work quite hard....and it is not passive...except you do social advertising...

That's what i believe, i could be wrong btw..

Building on what others said, I’ve seen that SEO often keeps paying dividends long after you forget about a post, but mixing in social media can really light a fire under new content. I usually repurpose blog snippets for tweets and reels, then drop those links in communities where my readers hang out. Those quick hits sometimes pull in backlinks that help SEO too.

I use social media to promote new posts and SEO to keep them ranking. The two strategies work well together instead of competing.

Do both, SEO for long term, social media for faster traffic. They work better together.

SEO builds long-term, consistent traffic, while social media brings faster but often short-lived visitors.
