[Journey] Building an iOS & Android App Empire

1. do keyword research and find the ones with the lowest difficulty and highest popularity.

you wont rank for the keyword Home Gym if you just publish your app now. there will be too much competition with millions of downloads already.

Go for longterm keywords, make keyword research. never use a term twice.

2. yes, especially if the video goes viral. you will see a spike in downloads. you can be pretty sure if you make a video about your app (and also show your app in the video) and 5 million people watch it, there will be people downloading it. the question is: how much can you make the people want to download this app? this fully depends on your video. need to find a good format, good hook, must be overall convincing but not make it look like an ad
have you tried Apple ads? or tiktok ads etc? if so, how was the outcome?

Apple Ads works but the CPI is more higher than on other platforms. Users usually convert better to paying users tho.

TikTok ads I tried it just a bit because with my HK company I am not allowed to use it, but I am working on a workaround for this

In your app distribution for tiktok u do mainly slides? or make some AI viral videos? if so what model u use for generate videos?

all of it!

- slides
- video generation
- and now also scraping existing videos and reposting

where do you go to learn? :)
no where. I just try a bunch of stuff. This entire thread here is just trying, failing, trying, etc.

i tried huawei app gallery, amazon app store and samsung galaxy store as alternatives. but not stores like aptoides.

the main sources are google play and apple app store. they will bring you 99% of traffic and money.
have you figured out phone farm automation for tiktok? Also have you tried iphone + imouse otg?
what do you mean by phone farm automation? whats imouse otg?

for posting i am using the APIs

@nakamura ,

Would you focus on hard paywall if you’re getting a lot of daily users with low to very low conversion rate ? And low DAU looking at the amount of monthly signups ?

Lastly , How would you improve the feedback rating of people using your app ?

Looking forward to your feedback.

Depends on your strategy.

You can definitely give a hard paywall a try. Just test it out and see if it makes you money. Many people saw success with it. For many of my apps I have a soft-hard paywall. I give limited free access, and even the free access the users need to watch rewarded ads, so it makes me money if they use it for free.

If you use RevenueCat I recommend using experiments to make A/B tests with different paywall copies.

One thing I do for feedback rating is: I place a thumbs up and thumbs down button on the screen I show results (for example). If user presses thumbs up, it triggers the rating dialogue. Since they pressed thumbs up its more likely the give a positive feedback. If they press thumbs down I open a report dialogue and ask for the improvement. So even then they feel like they have been heard (I am not reading this shit tho, most of their reports are because of dumb shit literally wasting my mailbox storage space)

So basically showing the rating dialogue whenever they had a positive experience.

I wouldnt recommend randomly showing the rating screen, especially when they use it first. Most will dismiss it or even give a bad review.

Thanks for your prompt response. Basically currently still utilizing the soft paywall as I had learnt from your ebook but seems like a lot of people are working with the trial without commitment. I read a book called hooked where you let users invest sweat equity in your product before asking for money.

To me it seems you make more money from IAP than from monthly subscriptions .

I would always prefer subscriptions, especially weekly and yearly.

For weekly, many people forget to cancel it. Some users have made $300+ just within a year.

For yearly, there is a high chance it will renew after one year, so you basically make double money. Right now I have around 4000 yearly subscriptions. I checked their status and around 50% of them will renew after one year.

4000 yearly subscription is immensely decent number. I guess should probably stick monthly with the model and work more on improving marketing marketing . One thing I had always done is to also build products in parallel which gives room for upsells. But year 4k is definitely a genius number which gives rooms for repeating buyer/ARR

Why weekly and not monthly subscriptions?
For one monthly charge, weekly would need to renew 4 times.

I see many online services try to push yearly because it is most reliable and do not use weekly at all because it has highest risk to cancel because it happens often.

Actually @AllOutAnime weekly is meta for these kinds of niche apps, especially if the traffic is coming from tiktok. people have zero attention span... they install, subscribe on impulse because $3 or $4 a week sounds like pocket change, use it once and completely forget. monthly actually has more friction sometimes because the upfront price looks bigger to a casual user. churn is terrible on weekly yeah but the ones who forget to cancel for a month or two easily make up for it. weekly is basically for fast cashflow while yearly builds the actual baseline.

yeah, i tested out weekly, monthly and yearly and weekly and yearly performed the best. only a few users would purchase monthly. so i removed it. also, the more choice you offer, the higher is the bounce rate. dont wanna confuse them or give them decision fatigue.

because you earn more money through weekly subscriptions. it works best for mobile apps.

conversion rate for a 7.99 USD weekly subscription is higher than for a 24.99 USD monthly subscription. Many of the users do impulse buys and for them 7.99 USD is nothing and no commitment, especially when it says 7.99 USD.

then mostly importantly, so many users forget to cancel it. as i mentioned: some users spent $300 on weekly subscriptions within a year. this is really common.

all of this is just based on my testing and data. of course i have tried out monthly subs before. i compared the ltv (lifetime value) of the users and weekly subscriptions had the highest ltv. its the absolute money maker.

I would also recommend yearly subs over a lifetime purchase because you have the chance of renewal after one year.

how much apps you have released and published for now on all apps stores ? and how much they generate with on app ads per day /month ?

Around 30-40 apps. using google admob. no banner ads, only rewarded ads. some appas have interstitial ads. per day in total around 130-180 USD. My focus is on IAP and subscriptions. I use rewarded ads to piss off people so they make a subscriptions

i also use applovin and appodeal, but i havent logged in there for a couple of months because the amount is insignificant compared to the rest.

I almost finish my MVP first app (utility), and still struggle what features makes free and what features make paid, do input ads day1, or make app fully paid day1 and so on, mess in head as f*ck :(

dont overthink.

give limited access to the feature, use rewarded ads for the free usage. let them use it 1-2 times.

after this, they have to buy the premium version.

so no matter what they do, it still makes you money. free usage = ads money. going premium = iap money
