Since posting in a thread with a banned OP is considered post count inflation, maybe threads should automatically lock when the OP is banned.

New members don't always know that replying to a banned OP counts as PCI. I didn't even know about that rule myself until a few weeks ago, and even established members may not notice the OP is banned on a 2-3 page thread. Auto-locking those threads would prevent a lot of accidental replies before they happen.

Granted, it's not the most pressing issue at the moment, but it would probably eliminate a dozen or so PCI reports a day, just from the cases I see alone.

Are you aware that members could asked to be banned for a period, not because of breaking any rule? If such member's post is closed or locked, will that not deny members opportunity to interact with the thread? If the OP banned period expired, what becomes of their threads, to request opening all threads?

True but how often does someone request being banned?

And maybe in that case the thread could still be opened because it's implied the banned member would return.

The currently enforced rule seems to be that replying to a thread from a banned OP is PCI, and those threads are manually closed when reported.

I'm just suggesting that the currently enforced rule be made an automated forum function. Any exceedingly rare edge cases, like requested/temp bans or SL threads, could still be handled case-by-case.

I guess commenting in a thread where OP is banned shouldn't even be considered a infraction to be honest

I saw several of those threads, if we report everybody who comments there, it would be a bloodbath xD

And newbies would be the biggest victims of that, many of them simply don't realize that op is banned...much less that it would be an infraction if they comment there

Maybe I'm missing something and there is something bad about allowing it, let me know

And there are some useful threads created by banned members.

Maybe just give warnings for people commenting on posts from 2011 and stuff like that, clearly bots farming garbage

Continuing to post in a thread from a banned user isn't a problem in itself. Especially if the topic was interesting and everyone is engaging. The problem is when spammers decide to use it to get a post count in.

Unfortunately, there's really no way to program situations like this unless we're lucky enough to get some robust machine learning or develop our own LLM (to both I've been told to keep dreaming ;-D). So it really takes human interaction to decide. My suggestion is to report it if you think people are just post count spamming and someone from the Community Team will make the call.
