Best Windows VPS for smooth performance and low lag?

Hi everyone,


I’m currently using Contabo Windows VPS, but I’m really unhappy with the service. Despite having a fast internet connection, the mouse is very laggy and overall performance is poor.


I also use a high-performance Cloud VPS:


  • 55$/month
  • 8 vCPU Cores
  • 24 GB RAM
  • NVMe Storage
  • 600 Mbit/s Port

And even with this setup, the mouse is still laggy inside the VPS.


My main need is to work inside the VPS like it’s a regular PC — downloading files, using a browser, and doing regular tasks smoothly.


I want a VPS where I can work comfortably, without lag or performance issues.


What do you guys recommend? Are there any Windows VPS providers that offer real smooth desktop experience?

You will need a server close to you.

For example, if you live in the EU, a server in the US will feel slightly laggy even with a 1 Gbps connection. So you want to get a server in your own country or a nearby one.
 
Contabo is a budget host infamous for heavily overselling their host nodes. Even if your Windows Task Manager shows 1% CPU usage, the underlying physical server's Disk I/O and CPU queues are often maxed out by hundreds of other customers, causing your remote UI to stutter and freeze. As an alternative, maybe you can check Asphostportal Windows VPS plan, their servers are affordable and have better performance.

I know that Contabo is really cheap. Honestly, I also tested them in the past since they have interesting pricing. But, my expectation was too high with them. I also had same issue with you like server laggy. When contacted their customer services, it can take days for them to reply my email. This is my frustation with them. I can't bear with them so I decided to find new Windows VPS provider, I then found Asphostportal which is more expensive but their server far better, plus technical support is really helpful.

with 24 GB RAM, the VPS shouldn't be laggy, it suppose to be very fast
 
Lag is usually RDP protocol limit. Try V2Cloud or HostHatch. Lower resolution and disable wallpaper. No VPS feels 100% like local PC.

If you ask me, still happy using GTHost vps hosting. I truly appreciate the flexibility offered by this hosting provider, allowing me to scale resources whenever my sites grow or require more power.
 
In my experience, Vultr and Hetzner Cloud provide a much smoother Windows RDP experience than oversold budget providers like Contabo.
 
VPS deals from inet.ws and legionbox.com can be right for meeting the needs of any discriminating web master.

For Windows VPS, don’t cheap out too hard, cuz that’s how you end up with a laggy desktop, trash CPU, slow disk, and RDP feeling cooked

I’d check out LuxHost for this. Their VPS setups pretty solid, it should feel way smoother than those super cheap "too good to be true" offers. For low lag and stable performance, LuxHost is def worth a look, even their cheapest servers perform at 11/10
 
if you're running heavy browser tasks or just want a smooth desktop, contabo is trash because of their disk IO, even on their higher tier plans. with a 55$ budget you shouldn't be on shared vps anyway. you can easily get a dedicated CPU instance on Vultr or Hetzner.

also, RDP is just naturally laggy if your ping is high. check your latency to the server... if it's over 70ms, mouse lag is unavoidable. try tweaking your remote desktop connection settings before switching hosts. turn off font smoothing and drop the color depth to 15 or 16-bit. makes a huge difference on sluggish connections.
