Do you think it is necessary ?

When I was a child, no one used to take any health insurance. Sometimes I feel most of health and insurance is just artificially created.

I would give an example of auto-insurance.
so my car got totaled and it saved me a lot of money, a lot, just because i had the insurance.

In case of health insurance, i still think big pharma and insurance conglomerates inflated them, and yes there are a lot of bad news all the time about health insurances, but its good to have one may be it will help when you need it.

In india generally its cheaper both ways.

It's one of the most predatory industry at par with tobacco industry.
There are strict laws to protect consumers in US and Europe but they still get away with malpractice.
Imagine what they are doing in the rest of the world.
Check out this movie rainmaker:

I'm uninsured because I'm used to that from my home country - the quality of these doctors was so low that I had to go to private practices anyway. So when I became adult and it was time to pay my own insurance I decided to be uninsured and only pay private doctors as needed, preferably avoiding going if possible. Abroad I do the same. Or if something's minor I'll get OTC or herbs or go to cosmetologist instead, all out of pocket. Some visa types require you to buy health insurance, but I'm not settled yet, so I don't have to get this yet. Maybe I'll manage to reside in a place that doesn't require that (some don't).

Insurance companies are scumbags of the highest order, but unfortunately we have no escape. Vehicles need to be compulsorily insured anyway. And if you don't take life insurance, you'll be leaving your family broke and in debt. Health insurance is necessary because one big medical emergency can leave you with a big hole in your pocket or worse, bankrupt.

It really depends on your situation and where you live if i am being honest. While it can feel unnecessary when you’re young and healthy, medical costs today can be unpredictable and sometimes very high. Insurance is more about managing risk than expecting something to happen. It’s usually worth weighing peace of mind against what you’re paying.

There is always counter party risk. Alternative is not do insurance and have sinking fund . This fund can be created by putting premium amount each month in it.

my man shepherd sammy has health insurance - costs £1k a year for £15k coverage

It depends, but in most cases it's still important. You don't use it often, but it protects you from rare, very expensive medical costs. It's mainly a safety net, not a daily benefit.

Never had it, seems like a waste of money as healthcare is free here.

I think health insurance is worth having. Generally, people think they never need it, but when you do, it can save you from a huge financial burden.

everyone should have a health insurance

If good health care is free , then there is no need of insurance. In my country , only poor have free health care.

all kind of insurance is total fraud to rip-off savings account money.
