Tired of paying high CPCs on Google and Meta. Tried a few alternative platforms but traffic quality was garbage.
Is there a sweet spot somewhere between cheap and quality or is it always one or the other?

In my experience there’s usually a tradeoff, but it’s not always extreme. Sometimes the better move is improving targeting and creatives before jumping to another platform. A slightly higher CPC that converts consistently is often cheaper than low-cost traffic that never buys.

I tried cheaper networks too and had the same issue. Lower CPC often meant lower buyer intent, so CPA didn’t actually improve in the end.

You can always try Clickanders. But there are a lot of bots, and you need to budget for creating a filter. You can get good traffic at a low price in the end.

for me focusing on mid intent keywords worked better, on google ads they are cheaper than high competition terms but still convert well.

Cheap clicks and quality are oxymoron. It does not exists. Cheap clicks are all bots. You may as well buy a traffic bot and send traffic to your site/page. It's the same thing.
So don't fall for traffic full of bots, read the reviews before you buy such traffic.

For me the sweet spot is smaller platforms with very tight targeting. Cheap traffic is usually trash if you go broad. I would rather pay a bit more for clicks from a niche audience than chase low CPC numbers that never convert.

you can find a middle ground but you have to do the heavy lifting yourself. if you go to native networks like revcontent or even outbrain, the default traffic is mostly garbage widgets. you need to run a tracker like binom or voluum and aggressively blacklist the bad placements daily. it takes some budget to burn through the bots first, but once you have a solid blacklist you can get decent conversions for a fraction of search costs. it is just way more active management than google.

I do not think it is always cheap vs. quaility. the right campaign setup can make lower cost traffic perform much better.

native ad networks like taboola/outbrain land in that middle ground, cheaper than google/meta but quality holds up decent if you filter placements

Cheap clicks wont convert well unfortunately. You get what you pay for. Capitalism ;)

Yeah @Campaigns By Mike has the right idea about the blacklists. i run a lot of native and pop traffic and if you do not use a tracker with some decent bot detection you are just burning cash. Had the same issue last year trying to scale a utility offer. What worked for me to bridge the gap was putting a fast pre-lander with a simple interactive step, like a one-question quiz, before the actual landing page. It kills off the bot traffic and accidental clicks from those cheap networks, so only real humans make it through. If you just direct link cheap traffic you are going to lose every time.

Have you tried Bing ads? Sometimes the clicks are cheaper there with decent quality depending on the niche.

Many mature DTC brands run 5 to 10 customer acquisition channels simultaneously rather than relying entirely on Google or Meta. This approach not only lowers the average customer acquisition cost but also reduces dependence on algorithm changes within any single platform.

This is something I’ve been experimenting with as well. From your experience, which traffic sources or targeting tweaks have given you the lowest CPC without hurting conversion quality? Would be helpful to know what’s actually working right now in practice

You can definitely find cheap, good traffic, but you have to work harder on your landing page. Alternate platforms are great for low CPCs, but those users expect useful, education first content rather than a direct sales pitch.

Yeah there is a sweet spot, but it is rarely "cheap + perfect quality" at the same time.

What usually works is:
Google/Meta for high intent traffic + cheaper platforms (native or search partners) for scaling and testing angles.

chasing cheap clicks only, quality drops. If you only go after premium traffic, cpc will be a killer. It is not one platform, it is blnc.

Cheap clicks + quality is possible with tight targeting. Long-tail keywords, strong intent audiences, and retargeting usually give the best balance of cost and conversions.

Try platforms like Microsoft Ads or Pinterest Ads. They are much cheaper than Google and Meta, but the users still have high buying intent compared to completely random, cheap traffic networks.

I stopped chasing cheap clicks and started testing smaleer placements with tight targeting and frequency caps. CPC was lower than Google but the actual win was filtering bad traffic early and only scaling the placements that converted in actual .
