I came across an interesting piece recently that discussed how AI Search (like SGE and ChatGPT results) is starting to prioritize brand recognition over raw backlink counts.

The author made a solid point - traditional backlinks are still valuable, but brand mentions across authoritative, trusted platforms (even without links) are becoming strong authority signals.
It’s not just about DR anymore; it’s about how widely your brand is cited and trusted online.

This makes sense - AI models don’t “count” links the same way Google’s old algorithms did. They interpret entity strength, context, and visibility. So, getting mentioned in industry articles, digital magazines, and newsletters (even PDF ones) could have more weight than generic blog links.

We have started experimenting with brand mentions + contextual backlinks in our SEO campaigns, and early signs look promising - especially in AI surfaces and long-tail queries.

Has anyone else tried combining mentions + backlinks to improve AI-driven rankings? Would love to hear your experiences or test data.

Yes, I agree with you, but I think it takes time and a lot of mentions for AI to fully match your brand as an important entity to a KW.

I have recently started testing this approach too - mixing brand mentions with usual backlinks instead of just chasing DR metrics and traffic.

From a business perspective it feels more natural to focus on being seen and trusted across reputable sources rather than just chasing link counts.
I would be curious to see how combining brand mentions with backlinks can really move the needle for visibility and conversions.

Totally agree with all of you - building brand authority definitely feels like a long-term game rather than a quick fix so focusing on mentions alongside backlinks seems like a smarter and more holistic approach than just chasing DR. I am also curious to see how this strategy impacts not just rankings but real engagement and conversions over time.

Not only backlinks, but brand mentions + trust are now super important for SEO and AI search ranking.

I have also tried combining brand mentions with contextual backlinks and found it quite effective, especially for long tail keywords. It seems that Google and AI Search actually favor natural and trustworthy brand mentions over high DR.

AI search engines now focus more on brand reputation and trust than backlink numbers. Being mentioned on credible websites boosts visibility and authority, making it crucial for stronger AI driven rankings.

Brands mentions through articles that are more of an expos£ are what is working

A small site with great well written articles will get mentioned in several prompts than a site just focused on brand mentions

More so, most lmm are focusing on well established sites with lots of brand mentions

Since social media posts are indexed, I recently used brand mentions on LinkedIn, X and Youtube and automated all of them with a tool called "Commentions". It's allow you to connect your social media account, target keywords, and it'll comment automatically some posts by subtly mentioning your brand (like 100-200 times a day) - it's just huge.

I seen positive effects for my AI Seo

Absolutely, AI search seems to value trust and visibility over sheer link count now. Combining brand mentions with targeted backlinks can really boost AI-driven results. It’s fascinating how contextual recognition is shaping rankings more than traditional metrics.

I am wondering and testing if cheap press release every now and then will do anything.

In AI-driven search, brand mentions are increasingly important. They frequently improve rankings more organically than traditional backlinks alone by establishing credibility and relevance. Without using aggressive link-building strategies, concentrating on authentic mentions from reliable sources can increase visibility and credibility in search results.

Yeah I’m seeing the same shift. Backlinks still matter, but brand/entity mentions across trusted sources seem to play a bigger role in AI visibility now. We’ve been mixing both in campaigns for Mack Media and the early results look more stable than pure link building alone.

Agreed entity/brands signals are getting stronger. Mentions + contextual links together seem to work best.

Interesting - are the comments generally of high quality or are some distinguishable as AI? Any risk of bans by social platforms with this?

I have also noticed the same thing. I still focus on backlinks, but I also try to build brand mentions on relevant, trusted websites. In my experience, using both together works better than depending on backlinks alone.

Yeah, this is actually a pretty interesting shift and its something a lot of people in SEO are starting to notice now.

In a way, Ai searches feels more context aware than link count driven . so if a brand keeps showing up naturally in the right spaces, It starts to get picked up more often in AI summaries and long tail responses.

Use high authority domains, not recomended for beginners due to valatity.

I have started seeing something similar. Brand mentions across relevant sites seem to help more with overall visibility than just focusing on raw backlink alone. In my tests combining contextual links with natural mentions in niche content has felt more stable especially for long tail queries and newer AI style search results.
