I thought i'd run my website through loads of random site audit websites, lots of the reccomendations were just slop that isn't effective anymore but one thing that caught my eye was that basically all of them wanted me to have a facebook and instagram page linked on the footer, is this actually important?

Well, that's the concept of "social proof". If you have an active fb or ig account linked to your site, it sometimes will be showed on google, and depending on your site type it might help you

not a ranking factor directly, but having them helps trust signals/brand legitimacy more than actual seo value

Not really. I would not add social link just because an audit tool recommends them. They are not a direct ranking factor.

If your business is genuinely active on facebook or instagram, linking to those profiles can help with trust and branding. But if you don't use them, there is no real SEO benefit to creating empty profiles just to satisfy an audit report.

Yes, social media links are important to connect for engagement and for optimizing OG tags but it is not mandatory. It is not effects the ranking and traffic of website.

I think they are more about building trust than anything else. If your facebook and instagram pages are active then it is good idea to add social links on websites but is you are not using then there is no need to include them.

Having social media links can help build trust , but they are not a major factor. focus on creating good content and engage naturally with your audience instead of using follow /unfollow

I don't think social links directly improve rankings but they can help with trust and brand credibility if you're active on those platforms it's worth linking them from your site

I see social links more as a branding signal than an SEO tactic real active profiles can add legitimacy but they won't replace strong content and backlinks

the social link do not contribute to rankig but improve trust and branding. If you use these platforms then add the links However if you don’t use these network creating dummy prfile to plse the audit will be of no use.

Not really. Having social links in your footer isn't a direct ranking factor. If you actively use those profiles, they can help with trust and branding, but don't add them just because an audit tool recommends it. Focus on technical SEO and quality content first.

the social link share will be found on all site that I manage so long as it is up to date and matches the brand. although it might not necesarily increase page ranks it is god for establishing the brands credibility.

Most Audit tools still push social links beacuse they're following old checklists. If you actually use FB/IG, add them. If not, don't create dead profiles just to satisfy an audit.

It's nice to have it, but don't expect it to make a huge difference. I think it mainly helps increase credibility, showing users that you have a real channel to follow. Prioritize content and user experience first.

From the user's perspective, social proof is an added layer of trust. It's not a ranking factor, but it's wise to have one.

Not really having social profiles is good for branding and trust, but simply adding facebook or instagram links in the footer won't boost rankings.

Don't blindly believe in site audit tools. Social profiles adds credibility to your brand, it's a best practice that you should follow.

adding social media links does not improve rankings, but they do help increase your brand credibility and trust. that's why its not good idea to include them on your website.

Social links aren't a direct Google ranking factor, so adding them won't boost SEO on their own. However, active social profiles can improve credibility, help users connect with your brand, and drive referral traffic. If your accounts are regularly updated, include them. If they're inactive, it's better to leave them out.
