How much do you donate every month?

I cancelled some useless subscriptions and I'm donating for charity, it makes me feel better to see a small part of my money going to a good cause instead of burning it on streaming services that I rarely use.

I won't mention names of institutions because it could become political and I also do not encourage people to mention specific names here.

How about you? Do you donate anything?

If you are going to donate something, do your own due diligence to avoid feeding scammers.

That's actually a great step. I do something similar, I set aside a small portion of what I earn from my SMM panel for people in need. It feels much more meaningful knowing that part of my income is helping someone instead of being spent on things I don't really need.

I don't donate
but whenever i see someone in need i don't hesitate to donate.

If I donate money to an association i dont know where the money will go. If i give money to someone randomly, someone who needs it, i will be able to see their smile on their face and that is what will make an happy day
 
Nothing monthly but now and then thru the year.
 
The whole "i don't trust associations so i just give to people directly" thing that @Fostack mentioned is fair but the smile thing can be deceiving too, plenty of organised begging setups out there. Honestly there's no perfect way. Bigger registered charities have overhead but at least you can check their reports. I do a mix... small monthly thing to one i actually researched and then random cash when i see someone genuinely struggling. Whatever lets you sleep at night i guess.

I’ve been making a monthly donation for many years to a free software organization, Wikipedia, and also to a small organization that provides supplies to Ukraine.

Aside from Wikipedia, I know the founders and board members, and I have access to the financial reports, so I trust them.

Professionally, I was forced to join a union, and in my country, unions are associations. It wasn’t a choice, and it bothers me (to put it politely).

I'd like to add that in my country, when you're a member of an organization, you're legally required to receive detailed financial statements.

That's actually a great tip if you're a journalist and want to investigate something: you become a member of the association, and boom! You get all the detailed financial statements, information, and so on.
And it's tax-deductible.

That's pretty cool, with how much open source software I use it'd make sense to me to donate to that as well if I myself was in a stable financial situation
 
I agree, due diligence is a must. Being careful about where we give helps make sure our kindness reaches the people we intend to support. I also come across a priest's homily and he says that we shouldn't choose who we are helping. If it turns out a scam, it's on them. You do good because it reflects who we are, not because of recognition/reward, or because you can guarantee the outcome.

As for the amount of donation, ideally it is 10%, but I believe it ultimately depends on someone’s generosity and capacity to give. As they say, give with a happy heart.

I use it a lot too, and I like the philosophy behind free software, so I try to give back what I've been given.
And when you're able to, I know you'll do the same :)
 
I usually tip to street vendors and delivery people 20% of the sale

From time to time I send money to close family that is going through financial issues.
 
Used to regularly, but business dried up and times are tough, so not much anymore.
 
I never donate. Only setup taxes so that a few percent go to charitable organisations, but that's about it.

I used to donate and really believed in charity - i do not now. It's a grift. The charities I thought were helping were in fact doing damage and "administrative" costs reached more than half all their donated income.
Fat cats with fancy suits in fancy cars get massive salaries to "do the good thing", yeah right. You need to do serious research and most importantly have the charity be open about their expenses. Most are not.

You know those kids who "ask" for donations inside major supermarkets or malls? You know why they do it "there"? Because the business who allows them in, claims those funds as "their" charitable donation and
uses that to write it off their taxes. You're donating in their name. Every cent given to them is a cent less in taxes for your local government. Funded by you.

I highly recommend everyone watching "Toxic charity" by the elephant in the room on youtube, by Ken LaCorte. Really good video.
