What’s the Most Effective Way to Build Backlinks in 2025?

I see so many backlink strategies being shared — guest posts, PBNs, niche edits, social profiles, Web 2.0s, etc. As SEO keeps changing, I’m curious to know what methods are actually working best right now. For those who are actively ranking sites, which backlink type gives you the best results in 2025, and how do you usually build them?

From my experience, guest posts are mainly used to gain traffic to a website. PBNs (Private Blog Networks) and social profiles are typically used to increase DA (Domain Authority) or DR (Domain Rating).
If your goal is to get traffic, you should go with guest posts. Alternatively, if your site has a blog, posting articles regularly can also help your site rank and attract traffic.
I'm sharing this based on my personal experience.

Thanks for sharing! I’m just startin with SEO, so this really helps. I didnt know guest posts are mainly for traffic or for SEO, so now it make more sense. I’ll try focussing on guest posts and posting on my own blog. Do you think thats a good start for a new site?

Right now, links from real sites like guest posts, niche edits, and genuine mentions work best. I usually get them through simple outreach and building good content people want to link to.

Yeah, it's a good start because I create agency websites, and some agencies told me that they weren't getting traffic. I suggested they add a blog section to their site using WordPress and post SEO-friendly articles with targeted keywords. Now, they're actually getting traffic from other countries like the USA, UK, and India. I also apply the same process to my own site.
 
A mix of all these strategies works best for building a diversified link profile. Depending on your keyword competition, you can prioritize certain link types to rank faster and more cost-effectively.

High-authority contextual links and niche-relevant placements tend to give the strongest impact, while supporting links from PBNs, Web 2.0s, and social profiles help maintain a natural profile and long-term growth. Balancing quality, relevance, and quantity is key.

A mix of different backlink types seems to hold up better over time because relying too heavily on just one approach can leave a site looking less natural
 
We just consistently post on forums, seems to work well. Also fun.
