I am still learning Telegram Ads and have started testing different ad campaigns. One question that keeps coming to my mind is whether it is better to promote a Telegram channel, a Telegram bot, or send traffic directly to a website.

From what I understand:

  • Promoting a channel can help to grow an audience and build a community.
  • Promoting a bot may increase user engagement.
  • Promoting a website could be better for better leads and sales.
Some of the issues I'm struggling with are:

  • Measuring real ROI from Telegram Ads.
  • Understanding which destination converts best.
  • Deciding whether to focus on audience growth first or direct conversions.
  • Knowing if bots actually perform better than channels for engagement.
I would like to hear from experienced Telegram advertisers:

  1. What do you usually promote a channel, bot, or website?
  2. Which option has given you the best results and why?
  3. Is there a specific niche where one performs better than the others?

Firstly with telegram ads you can directly send traffic to website unless you have a euro account and for that you need 2 million dollar agency account atleast.

  • Measuring real ROI from Telegram Ads.
Answer: You should work on building strong connection with your channel audience, once you have the audience you can monetize them better in the long term. So the ROI might not seems like a quick win but look at the longer implications.
  • Understanding which destination converts best.
Answer: Channel for building strong audience base, bot only if you have a tool / miniapp.
  • Deciding whether to focus on audience growth first or direct conversions.
Answer: Telegram is all about audience growth. Longer you stay in game the better you became.
  • Knowing if bots actually perform better than channels for engagement.
Answer: Bots are good to have but channels are great for engagement.

  • What do you usually promote a channel, bot, or website?
Answer: Channel only, bot in case of direct link you want to promote, it helps with cloaking also.
  • Which option has given you the best results and why?
Answer: both are great, but channels perform great in long run. Because you own the audience there.
  • Is there a specific niche where one performs better than the others?
Answer: Crypto is going great now a days for everyone. OF also works.

honest answer is it depends less on the format and more on whether your offer has repeat value. the framework i use: a channel is the only one of the three where your ad spend keeps paying you AFTER the click, because you keep the audience and can re-market them for free forever. a bot is great for a single transactional action (one purchase, one lead) but theres no ongoing relationship, theyre gone after the flow. direct-to-website bleeds the most intent and you keep zero contact, so every future touch costs you again. so the real split: if what youre selling has repeat or recurring value, promote the channel, the compounding owned audience is the entire point. if its a one-shot action, a bot funnel usually converts harder per click. one caveat, rebel phantom is right that a channel only compounds if it RETAINS. a channel people join and leave is worse than no channel, because telegram reads the churn and throttles your reach. whats the actual offer youre sending ads to, repeat value or one-time? that decides it.

Honestly it depends on the goal, but the destination that wins most often on Telegram Ads is the one you own and can message again, not a single click that's gone after one tap.

Quick breakdown:
- Channel: best for building an owned audience you can message again, for free, forever. Strong for community and long term repeat exposure. The weak spot is that a subscribe is a soft commitment, so the path to a sale stays indirect.
- Bot: usually the strongest default. It captures the click into a flow you control, so it can grow your list, qualify, and convert in one place, all inside Telegram where the person already is. Bots tend to beat raw channels on engagement because they're interactive.
- Website: best only when your real funnel or checkout genuinely lives there. Pushing ad traffic off Telegram to a cold site adds a step and usually loses the most people, so it needs higher intent to pay off.

On your specific points:
- Measuring ROI: Telegram Ads won't attribute for you. Put a deep link with a start parameter on each ad, so every subscriber or bot start is tagged to the ad and destination that brought them. Without that you're just guessing which one converts.
- Growth first or direct conversion: low ticket, impulse offers do better going straight for the conversion. Higher ticket or relationship driven offers do better growing an owned audience first and converting over time.
- Niche: broad content and community plays lean channel, service and lead gen and qualification lean bot, and a real store with its own checkout leans website, though even then it helps to capture them into Telegram first so one tap isn't your only shot.

If I had to pick one default, send to a bot. It grows the list, converts, and keeps people in the app, and a tagged deep link finally tells you what's actually working.

Nobody mentioned it but you dont have to pick just one. What works for me is run the ads to the channel cause CPS/CPM on channel subs is usually cheaper than paying for bot starts, then inside the channel you pin a post that pushes them into the bot. You get the cheap owned audience AND the bot flow, just in two steps instead of burning budget sending cold clicks straight to a bot.

On the ROI thing @floqal already nailed it with the start param deep links, that part is non negotiable, without tagging youre flying blind. Only thing id add is dont judge a destination too early. Channel ROI looks terrible for the first couple weeks then catches up once you start reposting offers to the same people for free.

For your niche question crypto and OF are crowded but they work because the ltv is high enough to eat the cpc. If your offer is one and done with no repeat buy, honestly a bot funnel is gonna look better on paper every time. repeat value... go channel. thats kinda the whole decision imo.

Promote whatever suits your purpose channel for your audience, bot for automation, website for sales.

One thing nobody really hit on... the website route isnt totally dead if you go through the bot first. You can have the bot drop the link with a /start tag so you still catch them on telegram before they bounce to the site, that way a failed click still leaves you with someone you can message later.

@TheoRank channel then pin into bot is solid but watch the leak rate on that pin, most people scroll past pinned stuff after the first day. I usually drop the bot push into the welcome message or first few posts instead of relying on the pin alone.

For ROI honestly give it 3-4 weeks minimum before you call anything. Telegram numbers look ugly early then the reposting to free audience kicks in like the others said. crypto and OF work but the comp is brutal right now, if you got any angle in something less saturated the cpc will treat you way nicer.

yeah, i’d test it as channel vs bot, not channel vs website. tag each ad separately and judge on starts/subs plus revenue after a few weeks, because the channel usually looks worse early.
