Myth: AI content gets penalized automatically.
Reality: Thin unhelpful content gets penalized. The search engine doesn't care who wrote it

Myth: link velocity matters more than link relevance
Reality: One contextual link from niche relevant site can still outperform than 50+ off topic links.

Myth: fixing core web vitals will move rankings
Reality: It helps, but you have work on content and entity signals as well to improve ranking.

What are all the other myths that still being repeated in 2026?

AI isn't to blame for content quality : )
It's actually people doing lazy work by not going through the content generated and optimizing it further

One other thing people miss is that it's important to provide as much context as possible in the instructions when asking AI to write
 
In my experience a handful of well-targeted pages can outrank hundreds of low-value posts, I would suggest to really hone in on understanding search intent better and improving on what’s already working rather than always chasing volume.
 
I had seen another myth is longer content always rank better. actually it depends on how well it answers the query, not just word count.

Old SEO practices are outdated. the most important factor is the site meeting user expectations so they do not immediately return to google.

SEO myths come about because people look at the seo tool itself instead of what really count for the ranking.
 
The biggest myth right now is that exact match anchor text is still a magic bullet. Over-optimizing anchor profiles gets sites filtered faster than ever now. Natural entity signals and brand mentions carry much more weight for long term safety. :rolleyes:
 
Myth: 'xyz' gets you penalized.
Reality: 99% of site will never get an actual 'penalty' from Google. What really happens is that weightings have been adjusted, other sites fit the query better (yes guess what, other sites do SEO too!), or whatever work you've done was just weak.
 
Earlier people used to believe that a ton of backlinks will improve their rankings overnight. The myth was busted. Now, many people think that costly backlinks improve their rankings. If the customers don't understand the link quality, the rankings won't see any significant improvements regardless of their SEO budget. They should build right backlinks instead of focusing on quantity or cost.
 
one myth I see repeated a lot is that DA or DR is a Google ranking factor, both are third party metrics Google has confirmed it doesnt use directly. A DA 20 page with real organic traffic passes way more value than DA 60 page sitting in some PBN with zero visitors, I have seen this play out on actual client results
 
You remain 6 months in a sandbox before being indexed.

Backlinks number.

If your website is slow it will never rank. (Slow is relative from one person to another but a 7 sec loading site wont get penalized because of that)

AI content is bad.

Others can share the myth you believed till day.
 
Myth: More backlinks, = better rankings

Reality: Better backlinks = better rankings. It s not just the sheer volume, it s the relevance, the authority, and the overall context that matter more, less is sometimes right more is not always.
 
Myth: SEO is one time project.
Reality : After setting up The SEO and forget it will hurt your site ranking.
Because algorithm changes constantly and continuous monitoring and optimization is the key.

I really liked your thoughts on two different thoughts, I really like the Reality part more, as we all are doing prediction basis work on permutation and combination..
 
Still seeing people believe "AI content gets penalized" and "DA is a Google ranking factor." In 2026, relevance, helpful content, topical authority, and search intent matter far more than outdated SEO myths.
