Me. lol.

Anyway, lets see how well Scotland do. I would still like to see a USA vs Scotland final, as thats the ideal sceneario for Trump, as he would be telling everyone about his Scottish ancestry! (again? lol) And i personally think that would be hilarious marketing "USA President golf courses profits from scotlands world cup victories!" lol

DAY 9 ROUND-UP

Their 1-0 defeat to Paraguay (@Salvad) may have been a thriller, but Turkiye (@FannyG) could have played all night and not scored. 62 shots without a goal. And half this match against 10 players. I think my grandma would have scored at least once from all those shots - and she's dead.

Brazil (@Fresh Money) attempted to prove they're not a one man team as Matteus Cunha scored twice in an easy 3-0 win over Haiti (@Carlit). Vini Jr. still scored the other and provided an assist though.

Scotland's (@Famia) tactic of parking the bus against Morocco (@Venusaur) was ruined after 71 seconds and although they actually tried attacking in the second half, they still lost 1-0. Morocco need to be more clinical if they want to go as far as last time. Scotland play Vini Jr. Brazil next. Best of luck with all that.

USA (@prey24) continued their impressive start to the World Cup with a largely dominant 2-0 win over Australia (@Guty), played out in front of lots of celebrities I did not recognise - except for Marshawn Lynch. Love that guy.

--------------------------------
Today's action starts with two really good-looking games. Netherlands (@Stavro) vs. Sweden (@Kiemash) has potential to be one of the best games so far. Sweden were outstanding in their opener, Netherlands looked tired. 3-1 to Sweden, I'd say.

And Germany (@Kentoa) take on Côte d'Ivoire (@Claudis) in another potential cracker. Germany will be playing against an actual defence this time and I can't pick between these two, so I'm going for 1-1.

Curacao (@Melissam) were shanked in their opener and I don't expect them to make much impact on a pretty decent Ecuador (@soyelco). A comfortable 3-0 to Ecuador, I think.

Tunisia (@Inem2) vs. Japan (@ShikharG) might not be one worth staying up for. I think Japan will pinch this 1-0 but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a goalless bore. I will be asleep.

--------------------------------

DAY 10 ROUND-UP

We have a new goalkeeping hero playing for a minnow and his name is Eloy Room! He did his best impression of a brick wall as Curacao (@Melissam) managed a 0-0 draw with Ecuador (@soyelco). Meanwhile Ecuador continue to live up to the old saying "couldn't score in a brothel".

Germany's (@Kentoa) late 2-1 win against Côte d'Ivoire (@Claudis) rounded off an excellent game that neither side deserved to lose. Both these teams could go deep.

Tunisia (@Inem2) had quite the week. Lost 5-1 to Sweden, fired their coach, hired a new one - and then still lost 4-0 to Japan (@ShikharG). Oh well, they only have the Netherlands (@Stavro) in their final game....

....and they pummelled Sweden (@Kiemash) in a clinical attacking display. Not sure what to make of these two sides now but they're both clearly the teams to watch if you want to have some fun.

------------------------------
Spain (@Fransh) will attempt to put their awful opening performance behind them against Saudi Arabia (@TheMarquis). The Saudis shouldn't stand a chance but who knows after last week. Still going 2-0 to Spain.

Belgium (@Steptoe) also had an underwhelming start and won't find it easy against a well-organised Iran (@Naits) side. In fact, I'm going for a 1-1 draw here.

Cabo Verde (@mnunes532) and their forty-something hero keeper Vozinha will be hoping to repeat their amazing draw against Spain, this time against Uruguay (@kaliof). But I expect Uruguay to take this 2-0.

Both New Zealand (@chinin) and Egypt (@onebink) impressed in their opening game draws, but I think the Egyptians might just edge this one 2-1. Although this may be dependent on Salah playing.

------------------------------
Sweden may have been roundly thrashed last night but one moment will live on in the heart of this commentator:-

DAY 11 ROUND-UP

It's undoubtedly the story of the World Cup so far. Cabo Verde (@mnunes532) defying the odds and thrilling everyone. First with an exceptional defensive display against Spain, and now fighting out an attacking 2-2 draw with Uruguay (@kaliof). A compelling game I was happy to stay up late to see. Could they get through to the knockouts?

They have Saudi Arabia (@TheMarquis) next, so they have a great shot. The Saudis were swamped by Spain who could have won considerably more than 4-0 but basically spent the second half asleep. Both the final games in this group should be thrillers.

Egypt (@onebink) finally clocked up their first World Cup finals win after a superb second half performance saw them beat New Zealand (@chinin) 3-1. And Mo Salah turned up, too - not like last season for Liverpool, eh Mo?

Belgium's (@Steptoe) 'golden generation' looks on its last legs as they struggled to a goalless draw with Iran (@Naits). They never really looked like scoring and Iran will be disappointed they couldn't take advantage of a red card for the Belgians.

---------------------------
Today sees Argentina (@sms_chief_of_messaging) take on Austria (@Danielag). Both teams started with comfortable wins but Austria's defence looked shaky against Jordan. A certain Lionel Messi will be interested in this. I say 3-1 to Argentina.

France (@Cheyande) will almost certainly have too much for a well-organised Iraq (@Starblazer). The French started slowly in their opener but once Mbappe woke up, he was unplayable. 2-0 France in this one.

Erling Haaland will look to add to his 1,134 international goals as Norway (@thelightgame), who were superb in their opener against Iraq, face a Senegal (@Victorjo) who looked more than handy against France. Norway to pinch this one 2-1 and Haaland to score 8.

And finally, Jordan (@Aleandra) vs. Algeria (@Maximilian P.) could be a really good game as both teams really need a win. But north African vs. middle eastern sides are rarely goal fests so I'm going 1-0 Algeria.

---------------------------

GGs @Naits! However, that game dragged like RuPaul caught on the back of a truck.

DAY 12 ROUND-UP

I was wondering if the heat had melted my brain or if I really did see this. Not just that Lionel Messi missed a penalty - but missed the target completely?

Of course, he still scored twice and broke the World Cup finals scoring record. Y'know, because Messi.

Argentina (@sms_chief_of_messaging) clocked up a fairly comfortable 2-0 win over Austria (@Danielag). Where would they be without Messi though? They'd probably be Austria, as they have no cutting edge at all.

How long will Messi's record stand for, though, with Kylian Mbappe hot on his heels? He scored twice as well as France (@Cheyande) eased by Iraq (@Starblazer) 3-0. The biggest threat to the French defence was from the lightning that delayed the game by two hours at half-time.

Erling Haaland took his international tally to 2,987 goals (yes I plan on running this gag completely into the ground, thank you) as he scored twice in Norway's (@thelightgame) 3-2 win over Senegal (@Victorjo). Superb game, Senegal are unlucky to be in such a tough group. Norway could be genuine contenders.

Jordan (@Aleandra) took the lead against Algeria (@Maximilian P.) but still lost 2-1, and they are eliminated. Algeria have quite a well balanced side and could go quite far with a decent draw.

-------------------------------
Today, I suppose we should let England (@WinningLife) play again, this time against Ghana (@BlogPro). England really do look strong and after the opener I'd expect them to win at least fairly comfortably again, possibly 3-1.

Portugal (@Rufai) and 107 year old Cristiano Ronaldo (I'm going to run this joke into the ground, too) look to recover from an awful opening draw and should have little issue with Uzbekistan (@Yaseli). 3-0 Portugal.

Croatia's (@jenerali) merry band of pensioners drag their zimmer frames over to face Panama (@Alis). Both teams need to win but I don't think either of them will - I'm going for a 1-1.

And Colombia (@Lifeisnotgood) look to build on their excellent opening win against Uzbekistan against a DR Congo (@Tanjiro B) side that will be confident after drawing with Portugal. Could be a close one, I'll say 2-1 to Colombia.

-------------------------------
Just want to check something....

Yes, he really did miss the target completely.

You shall not hate.

You shall not hate.

You shall not hate.

DAY 13 ROUND-UP
The rest of the big names at the World Cup seeing Cristiano Ronaldo turn up:-

iu

Two goals for Ronaldo as Portugal (@Rufai) stuffed Uzbekistan (@Yaseli) 5-0. Could have been more - and Uzbekistan scored the goal of the match only for it to be chalked off for offside. Boo VAR!

England (@WinningLife) and Ghana (@BlogPro) played out a dreary 0-0 draw. England fans weren't singing Wonderwall at the end of that, were they?

Croatia's (@jenerali) 1-0 win over Panama (@Alis) wasn't much better in terms of entertainment but Croatia's players can now go back to their rocking chairs and blankets for a few days.

And Colombia (@Lifeisnotgood) deservedly beat DR Congo (@Tanjiro B) 1-0 and qualify for the next round. Colombia are being labelled 'dark horses' which always means a team's doomed.

-------------------------
Final group games start today (yes, already) and there's a lot to play for.

Group A: Mexico (@Walterlo) are already through and they face Czechia (@Azaan) who are still in with a chance of qualifying along with South Africa (@Whitcoke) and South Korea (@Sarabia).

Group B: All spots are up for grabs as Switzerland (@Angelina.sk) face Canada (@Inesh) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (@SmTasker) face Qatar (@p3n7357).

Group C: Haiti (@Carlit) are out but they face Morocco (@Venusaur), who should go through safely. Scotland (@Famia) will probably need something from Brazil (@Fresh Money) though. Oh dear.

-------------------------
During the England vs. Ghana game, a Ghana player seemed to be attacked by one of the facehuggers from the Alien films.

DAY 14 ROUND-UP

Memo Ochoa has been one of my favourite player for years now and he got a send-off in front of his home fans yesterday after announcing he will retire after this World Cup. A lovely moment.

And it capped off Mexico's (@Walterlo) fine 3-0 win over Czechia (@Azaan) to top their group. Czechia are going home. South Korea (@Sarabia) are also in danger after a surprise defeat to South Africa (@Whitcoke), who are in the knockouts for the first time ever.

Switzerland (@Angelina.sk) beat Canada (@Inesh) on their home patch to top Group B. Both teams are through, though. Bosnia and Herzegovina (@SmTasker) should qualify in third after beating Qatar (@p3n7357).

Scotland (@Famia) are probably going home, too, after a terrible performance against Brazil (@Fresh Money). Haiti (@Carlit) were already heading home but gave Morocco (@Venusaur) a great game in losing 4-2. Morocco qualify in second.

---------------------------------
More final group games today:-

Group D: USA (@prey24) are already through and Turkiye (@FannyG) are out but the Yanks will want at least a point to win the group. Australia (@Guty) just need a point from Paraguay to finish second, Paraguay (@Salvad) need a win.

Group E: If Curacao (@Melissam) can somehow beat Cote d'Ivoire (@Claudis) then they would probably go through. Seems unlikely, but they improved hugely against goal-shy Ecuador (@soyelco), who need to beat Germany (@Kentoa). Best of luck with that.

Group F: Tunisia (@Inem2) have been pathetic and are already out but Netherlands (@Stavro) are more or less through - one point would confirm it. Japan (@ShikharG) also just need a point from Sweden (@Kiemash) - a point for the Swedes might also be enough.

---------------------------------
If they are eliminated, I wonder if Scotland fans will try and take their new friend home:-

DAY 15 ROUND-UP

That's Sweden's (@Kiemash) Anthony Elanga, who thought that Sweden had gone out. Bless him. And his (brilliant) goal earned them that point against Japan (@ShikharG), who also go through. Netherlands (@Stavro) finished top after an easy 3-1 win over Tunisia (@Inem2), who could not be more out.

Ecuador (@soyelco) remarkably came from behind to beat Germany (@Kentoa) and somehow qualify. Germany still won their group, even with Cote d'Ivoire (@Claudis) beating Curacao (@Melissam).

Turkiye (@FannyG) finally scored and, all too late, managed three of them in a thrilling 3-2 win over USA (@prey24). USA still win their group and Turkiye are still out. Australia (@Guty) and Paraguay (@Salvad) drew, meaning the Aussies go through and Paraguay are left to wait.

--------------------------------------
Group G: Anyone could still qualify here and nobody's safe. That's what we like to see. Egypt (@onebink) just need a point from Iran (@Naits), who will need to win. Belgium (@Steptoe) and New Zealand (@chinin) both need to win.

Group H: All to play for here, too, technically. Spain (@Fransh) need a point from Uruguay (@kaliof), who in turn need to win. Saudi Arabia (@TheMarquis) and Cabo Verde (@mnunes532) both need to win as well.

Group I: More or less nothing to play for here. France (@Cheyande) and Norway (@thelightgame) are through - Senegal (@Victorjo) and Iraq (@Starblazer) need a win off each other but even then will still probably go out.

--------------------------------------
I think the Ecuadorian commentators were happy.

DAY 16 ROUND-UP

So, Marcelo, what have you made of Uruguay's performance during this World Cup?

Oh. Sorry we asked.

Yes, Uruguay (@kaliof) inevitably tumbled out of the World Cup after another shambolic performance against Spain (@Fransh), who didn't even bother for half the game. Spain win the group - and Cabo Verde (@mnunes532) miraculously join them after a draw with Saudi Arabia (@TheMarquis), who go home. Amazing.

Belgium (@Steptoe) finally turned up as they thrashed New Zealand (@chinin) 5-1 to win their group. Iran (@Naits) were denied a last gasp goal by VAR that would definitely have sent them through but their 1-1 draw with Egypt (@onebink) leaves them waiting. Egypt qualify.

France (@Cheyande) thrashed Norway (@thelightgame) 4-1 to win their group. France look unstoppable and Norway left out Erling Haaland, who couldn't add to his 3,891 international goals. Senegal (@Victorjo) pummelled 10 man Iraq (@Starblazer) 5-0 to squeeze through. Some brilliant goals in this game, too.

----------------------------
Group J: Argentina (@sms_chief_of_messaging) are already through as group winners and Jordan (@Aleandra) are out, so nothing to play for there. Austria (@Danielag) both need a point so don't expect many (or any) goals there.

Group K: Colombia (@Lifeisnotgood) face Portugal (@Rufai) with both teams already through. Colombia need a point to win the group, Portugal a win. Uzbekistan (@Yaseli) need a minor miracle to qualify - DR Congo (@Tanjiro B) need to win.

Group L: England (@WinningLife) are through (dammit) but need a win against Panama (@Alis), who are out, to confirm winning the group. Ghana (@BlogPro) are also through but Croatia's (@jenerali) coffin dodgers need a point.

----------------------------
Any comment yet, Marcelo?

We'll take that as a no.
