I mean there are more creators in each niche and thus the views get divided among channels. Does this mean that monetization for channel is much harder to achieve compared to what it used to be 5 years ago ?

It’s more competitive now, but monetization isn’t harder if you’re differentiated clear positioning, strong retention, and multiple revenue streams matter more than raw views.

I completely agree with the last comment, having a clear and unique value proposition is key to standing out in a crowded niche. With so many creators vying for attention, it's no longer just about view counts, but about building a loyal audience and diversifying your income streams. I've seen channels with relatively low view counts still generating significant revenue through affiliate marketing, sponsorships, and memberships. Does anyone have any experience with optimizing their channel for these alternative revenue streams, and what strategies have been most effective for you? It'd be great to hear some real-world examples and learn from each other's successes.

The number of viewers on youtube is also increasing to still lot of oppurtunities.

Until about 8 months ago, it was easy to make money with artificial intelligence, but YouTube made it impossible.

definitely it's way harder to get monetised in our days.

first of all because of Youtube policies

second. It's too much content and it can be difficult to compete

It was difficult even 5 years back. But when you go back 10-15 years, it was pretty easy back then. People were making bank with even re-used content. It kept getting difficult as more and more people joined YT.

Yeh I have been wondering the same, I wanna use an smm panel, but I'm afraid YouTube might detect it and reject monetization

More YouTube channels mean more potential profits for YouTube; it's the same as it was 5 years ago - as long as your videos are decent, you'll get monetized.

Yes competition is much higher, so it’s harder than 5 years ago. But YouTube also pushes Shorts and niche content more, so focused creators can still reach monetization if they post consistently and solve a clear audience need.

Yes, it's harder now. Youtube no longer needs you as much as you need youtube. As other income streams are getting saturated, everyone is rallying behind youtube and reddit, so the competition is extremely high.

Very few people have the traits required to make it big on youtube. Other online methods you can execute with staff as well.

There are more competitors, but the audience is also growing. The most difficult thing now is to find your niche or stand out creatively, because there are too many authors, and the level of content is getting higher and higher every time.

Yes, getting monetized on YouTube is generally harder than it was five years ago. YouTube has raised its eligibility requirements, including 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the past 12 months, and now closely reviews content for policy compliance. Competition is also fiercer, meaning creators need higher-quality, consistent content and better audience engagement to meet monetization standards.

It's definitely more competitive since AI can produce content and everyone and their mother uses AI (lol), but if you have excellent content in every video you make you're bound to create a devoted following.
