One of my videos suddenly stopped getting views

Hey everyone,

I had one video doing really well for a few weeks and it was bringing most of the views to my channel. Views were pretty consistent every day, and it was also getting good suggested traffic.
But suddenly, almost overnight, views dropped a lot for no clear reason. I did not change the title, thumbnail, or anything major. Even suggested traffic looks much lower now, which is confusing.
I am still getting some views, but nowhere near what it was before. Not sure if this is normal on YouTube or if I should try changing the thumbnail/title to help it recover.
Has anyone gone through something similar? Did the video recover on its own or did you have to make changes?

The algorithm pushed your video, your CTR/retention naturally dropped as it hit a broader audience, and YouTube cut the impressions.
Don't touch the title or thumbnail. You will reset your indexing and lose whatever rank you have left.
Videos rarely recover from this on their own. The only way to wake the algorithm back up is by forcing fresh, targeted search traffic to your exact keyword. Otherwise, just move on to the next upload.
 
if it got you views already, just move on to the next one. Best way to get more views on future videos is when your video is still getting massive views. Use it to promote your latest video in the description or in the recommended videos
 
This is fairly common. YouTube often reduces recommendations once a video's initial momentum slows or competing content performs better. Some videos recover on their own, but it's usually best to monitor CTR and retention before changing titles or thumbnails.
 
seen this happen on so many channels. the advice to never touch the metadata is kinda outdated imo. if the video is already dead and getting zero impressions, you literally have nothing to lose by changing the thumbnail and title.

the trick is to look at your reach tab first. find the search terms that were driving the views before the drop. if there is a specific keyword that was performing well, tweak your title to match that search intent more closely and make the thumbnail more clicky for that specific crowd.

sometimes it triggers a re-index and you get a second wave. if it doesnt work after a week, then yeah just move on. but leaving it dead does nothing for you.
 
suggested traffic is volatile since YouTube constantly rotates what it recommends. changing the thumbnail might be worth testing though.
 
yea, sometimes youtube just cools down a video, it happens. suggested traffic can drop suddenly. u can wait few days, sometimes it picks up on its own. if not, try small tweaks in title/thumbnail or push it on ur social, that can help a bit. dont panic, normal stuff.
 
In my opinion, before changing title or thumbnail, I would check analytics first. if CTR dropped a lot, then maybe test a new thumbnail. but if CTR is okay and impressions crashed, it may just be algorithm changes.
 
Yeah thats pretty normal on YouTube, sometimes the algo stops pushing a video after a while and it can pick back up again later.
 
maybe someone saw you video, took over the SEO that was getting views to your video, and made a better video. At this point, you can try to milk more views by making shorts from the video or move on to the next one
 
that is pretty normal on youtube sometimes a video gets a strong push in suggested traffic and then slows down once the testing phase ends if the video still gets views there is still potential i would check retention and click rate before making any changes and give it some time first
 
Sometimes it is not about your content changing. On YouTube, competition from newer uploads can reduce recommendations for older videos.
 
A sudden drop in views after a few weeks is very common on YouTube. When a video initially "trends," the system promotes it widely to a large audience. Once that potential audience becomes saturated (either already watched or uninterested), the click-through rate (CTR) and watch time decrease, and YouTube stops promoting the video.

I think small drops in CTR or watch time can reduce distribution. On YouTube, even slight metric changes can have a big impact on suggested traffic.
 
I think that’s completely normal when videos are no longer being recommended by the algorithm and view counts drop significantly.
 
Over time, the original viewers may have clicked on the thumbnail. If new viewers don't find the video engaging, the system will stop recommending it.

Is that AI generated type of content, if yes that probably one of the reasons, If not, then maybe some Update rolling out, or you use copyright content.
 
I believe that's completely normal. When videos are no longer being promoted by the algorithm, it's common for view counts to decline significantly.

I believe that this is another example where YouTube changes the suggestions that it makes. It is possible for videos to do really well at firrst but then drop off even if there have been no changes made. I would observe it for a little while before editing anything bcz it may become more difficult to see what happened.
