Hi everyone,
I’ve noticed that some creators spend a lot of time optimizing their video descriptions, while others keep them very simple.
Do you think video descriptions still play an important role in discoverability and channel growth, or have they become less significant over time?
Would love to hear your thoughts.

Yes, descriptions are still important for SEO and discoverability, but titles, thumbnails, and viewer engagement play a much bigger role in channel growth nowadays.

Honestly, descriptions are just minor details now, so don't overthink them. Just write a quick 2 sentence summary with your main keyword and drop a few timestamps, then call it a day. Spend 99% of your energy on the actual video content and retention because a lazy description won't kill a killer video

I still take a few minutes to write a good description because it helps YouTube to understand what the video is about and even if it is not as powerful as it used to be. The title and thumbnail grab attention first, but a clear description can still make a difference over time.

Yes, it is important, still helps understand context of the video.

Descriptions definitely matter for growth, but not for the reasons people think. The algorithm uses those first 150 characters to map out user intent. If you write a sloppy summary, YouTube wastes impressions testing your video on the wrong audience, killing your initial CTR. Write a clean, hyper-targeted summary so the system feeds it to the exact crowd that actually wants to watch.

Yes, video descriptions still matter on YouTube, but not as much as titles and watch time. They mainly help with context and search.

Yes, from my personal experience, i got more views from search with the better description

Descriptions help to hold the watchtime, while your video is playing some guys reading your descriptions and your hold them.

Descriptions still matter for SEO, keywords, and helping YouTube understand your content, but strong titles, thumbnails, watch time, and audience retention typically have a much bigger impact on growth.

Video descriptions help Youtube's algorithm to categorize your content therefore they help guide it what to show to the audiences.

Youtube video descriptions are still matter, but not as much as the title and thumbnail. You should keep the description simple, include the main keywords naturally, and focus on making them useful rather than keyword heavy. A good description helps youtube understand your video's context and can improve search visibility as well.

Descriptions give your channel a sense of quality and yes it does help with seo and placing your videos in the right category, however the most important ones are your thumbnail and video content, this is what helps with blows ups and not descriptions!

Yes, video description still play an important role because it provides the information about your video content and your channel gets easily ranked in search results if you placed the relevant keywords in your title and descriptions.

They still have some SEO value, especially for search traffic. But on YouTube, most views come from suggested and homepage, not descriptions.

Video descriptions still matter, but not as much as titles, thumbnails, and watch time. I keep descriptions simple with important keywords. They can help discoverability, but great content remains the biggest factor.

personally i still add descriptions because they provide useful context and relevant keywords even if they are not as important as before title thumbnail and viewer retention usually have a much bigger impact on growth but a clear description can still support discoverability and improve the overall quality of the upload

a little bit must importantly for youtube success is the following:

1. Title
2. Thumbnail
3. The actual content (For watchtime)

optimize all those 3 and with a bit of luck your videos should get into the algo.

I think the video description on YouTube still plays an important role in helping videos gain more views and appear more often in relevant search results.

Video descriptions still have value, but they are not the main growth factor anymore. I use simple descriptions with important keywords. Strong titles, thumbnails, watch time, and audience engagement make the biggest difference.
