Why do some Reddit communities welcome brands while others reject them completely?

I have noticed that some subreddits are surprisingly open to business that genuinely contribute, while others reject almost any mention of a product or website. Beyond individual subreddit rules what factors determine whether a community becomes receptive or hostile toward brands?

It mostly depends on trust. If people feel brands are honest and helpful, they accept them. If not, they reject everything.

According to me, it usually comes down to how brands behave in that community.

Subreddits that have seen a lot of spam and self promotion tend to be much stricter. On the other hand, communities are often more welcoming when brands participate naturally, answer questions, and provide value instead of constantly trying to sell something. People on reddit generally do not dislike brands. They dislike obvious promotion.

this is because some communities are sensitive to promotion because they want to keep discussions focused on users instead of marketing.

Most reddit communities don't mind brands if they provide genuine value and participate naturally ,but they become hostile when they feel the brand is only there to promote itself or spam links.

Subreddits that see genuine value added contributions are more tolerant while niche well moderated communities tend to be more open than high abuse or sensitive topic ones. Receptiveness depends on moderation culture past spam issues and how frequently brands self promote.

I'd say because of the high degree of spam, some of the mods got fed up and they react negatively to brands and promotion.
