Rankings keep jumping every few minutes after new blog update — anyone else seeing this volatility?

Hey everyone,

I’m managing a site that’s been ranking consistently in the top results for a competitive keyword for quite a while.
However, right after publishing a couple of new blog posts (relevant to the same niche), I started seeing extreme SERP volatility — the ranking keeps jumping every few minutes between positions (e.g., 2 → 5 → 3 → 6 and back).
Here’s what I’ve noticed so far:
  • Desktop rankings remain relatively stable, but mobile SERPs fluctuate constantly
  • A new competitor domain recently appeared and seems to be getting temporary visibility boosts
  • CTR dropped significantly (around 40–50%) even though impressions are steady
  • No technical changes or penalties on the site
  • The volatility persists even in incognito mode, so it’s not personalization or cache
I suspect it might be related to:
  • Google’s re-ranking / reindexing phase after content updates
  • Exploration Boost or some kind of CTR testing where Google compares user signals between multiple sites
  • Possibly data center differences during live testing
I’d like to hear from anyone who’s experienced similar behavior:
  1. Have you seen minute-level ranking fluctuations like this recently?
  2. Is this something that usually stabilizes after a few days, or is it a sign of a longer-term reshuffle?
  3. What’s your go-to approach when this happens — wait it out, tweak CTR titles, or pause all updates?
  4. Any recent case studies or threads about this kind of real-time volatility would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance to anyone who’s willing to share some insight.

I'm seeing a similar thing just now on one of my sites with some pages fluctuating wildly during the space of an hour.

When it happened previously, the pages eventually ended up higher on page 1 and it subpar AI sites got pushed down.

You'll need to just ride it out in afraid

Is that competition doing negative seo targeting your new posts ?
No, that’s not it.

It’s just my opinion, but the rankings started fluctuating after October 31.

I don’t think it’s because of my blog posts — I suspect Google might be running an update.

Not only my site, but rankings for competitive keywords are also constantly going up and down in real time.

There’s definitely an update coming soon. One of my adult tube sites’ traffic went down by almost 40% in the last five days before that, it was stable.

I started seeing extreme SERP volatility
I too see it on my sites, esp. where blogs which have a sidebar that has "latest posts" posted. i've like 5K blog posts. everytime i publish 4-5 new posts, this side bar gets updated site-wide and the actual old posts rankings do shuffle a bit. Not huge drop or boost. just 2 or 3 positions up/down in SERP. Also, many posts gets deindexed (automatically) during this. IDK what google liked in past may not like in present.
