I am considering Tumblr for SEO purposes Does it provide real backlink value or mainly branding and traffic How should posts be structured to maximize benefits and ensures links are indexed properly

Tumblr is mostly a branding and indexing play now... its outbound links are typically nofollow, so don’t expect strong direct link equity. Where it helps is getting content discovered faster and driving secondary signals if posts gain traction. Structure posts with unique, media-rich content and place links naturally, but treat it as a support channel rather than a primary backlink source.

No I wouldn't think so Tumblr has been dead for years.

Tumblr is best for branding and traffic use unique, quality posts with natural contextual links to gain modest SEO and indexing benefits.

For the best SEO value, focus on publishing unique, high quality content with naturally placed contextual links, as branding, traffic, and link diversity often provide the strongest long term benefits.

I am using tumblr from a long time. According to me, it is more useful for branding and content discovery than for SEO value. You should not depend on it for backlinks alone, but if you post useful content consistently and it gets shared naturally by real users, it can still bring some referral traffic and help with brand visibility.

In my opinion, Tumblr is better suited for building a niche brand than for building backlinks. Its strength lies in community engagement, content sharing, and developing a loyal audience around a specific topic, rather than serving as an effective platform for backlink building.

I think tumblr is better for branding and diversification than for strong SEO value. I would not depend on it for ranking alone, but it can still help if you post useful content consistently and link your site naturally instead of treating it as just another backlink source.
