Hey everyone,

I thought I'd share my Pinterest recovery journey since I've seen a lot of discussion lately about traffic drops, Pinterest updates, and whether older accounts can recover. I run a gardening and home-focused website that's already on Mediavine, so Pinterest is one of my most important traffic sources.

Unfortunately, over the last year I made a mistake that I think many website owners can relate to. Part of it was burnout, part of it was boredom, and honestly I also went through a period where I was dealing with depression and just lost motivation to work on the business. Instead of continuing to publish content and create fresh pins, I mostly let the account run itself.

As expected, performance gradually declined.

Current stats for the last 90 days:
  • 12.61M impressions
  • 77.9K outbound clicks
  • 102.8K saves
  • 6.62M total audience
  • 448K engaged audience

Impressions are down 3.7% compared to the previous 90-day period. Clicks and engagement have remained relatively stable, but the decline became much more noticeable after the April Pinterest update.

Before the drop, daily impressions were often around 170k-200k per day. Afterward, they settled closer to the 100k-130k range.
Looking back, I think the biggest mistake wasn't any algorithm update—it was simply neglecting the account for almost a year. Pinterest seems to reward consistency, and I wasn't giving it much to work with.

The good news is that the account still has a strong foundation. I'm not starting from zero, so I'm treating this as a recovery project rather than a new build.

One reason I'm focusing heavily on recovery is because the site is already monetized through Mediavine. Depending on the season and content mix, RPMs typically range between $45-$60, so even moderate traffic gains can have a significant impact on revenue.

Instead of dwelling on the decline, I've decided to rebuild aggressively.

Over the last week or so, I've started posting consistently again.

Current strategy:
  • Publishing 3 new blog posts per day
  • Creating 6-10 fresh pins per day
  • Focusing heavily on evergreen content
  • Indoor gardening
  • Houseplants
  • Vegetable gardening
  • Plant care
  • Small-space gardening
  • Home and garden content
  • Creating fresh URLs instead of endlessly recycling old content
I'm also launching a few additional Pinterest accounts in related niches as supplementary traffic sources. The goal isn't to spam Pinterest or create low-quality content, but to diversify traffic sources that can ultimately support the same website.

My thinking is simple:
  • More quality content = more opportunities to rank
  • More Pinterest assets = more distribution opportunities
  • More traffic sources = less dependence on a single account

I only restarted this process about a week ago, so I don't expect instant results. From my experience, Pinterest often takes weeks or months before it fully trusts and distributes new content.

Since the site is already earning through Mediavine, recovering even a portion of the lost Pinterest traffic could make a meaningful difference to monthly revenue.

My plan is to stay consistent for at least the next 6 months and document what happens. I'm curious to see whether an older account that's been neglected can regain momentum through fresh content and consistent pinning.

Has anyone here successfully recovered a Pinterest account after leaving it mostly inactive for a long period? How long did it take before you started seeing meaningful growth again?
I'll update this thread as the recovery progresses. Hopefully it helps others who are trying to bring older Pinterest accounts back to life.

Consistency is one of the most underrated aspects of Pinterest. People don't talk about it as much. I did a test in the past where I stopped posting for a short while, impression and traffic dropped. This shouldn't be so since older pins are usually responsible for most traffic and impression.

My conclusion was that posting of new pins help keep older pins in circulation. I think it signals to Pinterest that the account is legit and worth people checking out.

Finally a reason to log into BHW more often ha! :D

Yes, it's normal for accounts to fall off the rankings and lose impressions if you neglect them. Yours look extremely healthy and not hit from the updates though, so I'm sure you'll get back to your previous levels sooner rather than later! (More bonus points since your site is already in one of the best ad networks!)

I've found that it has become very hard for new accounts/sites to gain trust from Pinterest in 2026. Having an aged & well-established account is such a massive advantage over someone starting a fresh. Take this opportunity and milk it as much as you possibly can! Nobody knows for how long Pinterest will continue to give us good traffic. :)

You have a solid content plan. I imagine you're going to be using AI (at least for generating the text?) to help achieve your goals? I've gotten 1 of my sites booted out of Journey, because of AI content but I haven't heard people getting kicked out of Mediavine proper for this...

Good luck! I'm looking forward to your updates!

Yeah, I agree with you. I didn't post any new content or pins. Also the urls reached their maximum like the amount of pins I can create for them or get them marked as spam.

Thanks bro, good to see you around. I think its already having some positive effects already been posting for a week. The April update was kinda brutal , but its deserved I rekon. I will use AI for text but also editing, but with alot of personality thrown in throughout all the blog posts, i trained claude to copy how i write. For the images I use instagram images with a link back., that seems to work. For the pins I am creating them using gpt 2 image, with the actual images from the blog post.

I'm also trying to gain traffic from pinterest with my site. What's your pin strategy? Do you post a blog post and then pin 6 pins for that specific post all at once?

I post blogs then create pins using gpt 2 image. I would not post all of the pins in one day from the same blog post. What I would do is post one pin on that day, and shedule the rest within a 2 week period.

with that traffic and income, you should hiring somone/ freelancer to do daily.

Good luck, following. Are you doing manual pinnint or using 3rd party tools ?

Looking good, How old is the Pinterest account, if you don't mind sharing?

GL with your journey

I'm glad to see that someone can still generate good traffic on Pinterest. I used to run Pinterest projects few years ago, and lost some accounts. Best of luck!
