So I am working in a niche where basically only parasite pages rank.
The keywords aren't that competitive (most tools show KD around 10-20), the SERPs are full of parasites like scribd, slideshare, cliffsnotes etc.
What I don't understand is how people outrank each other when they're using the same parasite.
For example, for one keyword a Scribd page is ranking #1, but there are other Scribd pages targeting the same keyword buried on page 2 or 3. Same thing with some of the other parasite sites.
The content doesn't look that different to me, so what actually moves one above the others?
Do people build links directly to the parasite URL? Use indexers? Social signals? Something else?
My thinking was:
Upload doc/pdf to scribd (or whatever), then get it indexed with a paid indexer, then build links to the exact URL, then maybe some forum/profile/social stuff as tier 2
But I don't really know if that's how people are doing it.
Anyone here have experience ranking parasite pages? What actually makes the difference between a page that ends up top 3 and one that gets stuck on page 3?
