Are TikTok Shares More Important Than Likes for Video Performance?

Shares generally carry more weight than likes because they signal stronger interest and help TikTok identify content people want others to see. Likes still matter, but videos with high shares often achieve better reach and longer term performance.

From what I have seen shares carry more weight than likes.
Videos with average likes but lots of shares often keep getting pushed longer.
Watch time is still the biggest signal though.

In my experience, shares seem to be a stronger signal than likes. A video can get plenty of likes and still plateau, but when people start sharing it, TikTok usually pushes it to a wider audience. Likes still matter, but shares often indicate that viewers found the content worth showing to someone else.

In my opinion, shares on TikTok are very important. Shares can bring our posts to a wider audience, help us retain viewers, and confirm that our posts are valuable to them.

Shares always have more impact than likes. Someone will share a video / image only when they feel the content is worth showing to someone else. I've seen videos with fewer likes outperform others simply because people watched longer and shared them.

Shares usually have a stronger impact on TikTok reach than likes because they signal higher content value and help push videos to new audiences through distribution. Likes still matter as a basic engagement signal both contribute, but shares and watch time are more influential for performance.

Both are important. Shares generally have a stronger impact on distribution because they show that the content is valuable enough for viewers to share with others. Likes are still important, but their signal is weaker, mainly reflecting the speed of liking. The most important factor remains viewer retention; if the video is watched to the end, TikTok will prioritize distribution, followed by likes and shares.

I think both matter, but shares are definitely more powerful when it comes to reach. Likes are good for engagement signals, but shares show stronger interest because people are actively sending the content to others.

Shares are more valuable than likes because each share allows the post to reach a larger audience; it is then deemed effective and is more likely to trend.

Hi everyone,
I’ve noticed more discussions around engagement signals on TikTok lately.
Do you think shares now have a bigger impact on video reach and performance than likes, or are both equally important?
Would love to hear your experience.
Engagement and shares definitely impact video reach more than likes and your videos get more reach through engagement and sharea. However, likes "reward" your videos and are more like a metric that your content is good enough.
