I have seen plenty of advice about what to do on LinkedIn, but not as much discussion about what people should avoid.

In your opinion, what is the most common mistake people make that holds back their growth or opportunities on LinkedIn?

It could be something related to their profile, content, networking, or overall approach. I think hearing real experiences could help a lot of people avoid the same mistakes.

Treating LinkedIn like a broadcasting platform instead of a networking platform. Genuine engagement matters as much as posting.
 
I used to send connection requests only when I needed something. That approach never worked well for me
 
People focus on broadcasting instead of building real conversations commenting thoughtfully and networking consistently which is what actually drives visibility and opportunities. Biggest mistake is treating LinkedIn only as a static resume or posting self promotion without engagement.

Yeah I totally agree with that because some people have spammed me to death on LinkendIn.

if your gonna do 2 new posts in a category in 10 mins - combine them
 
The biggest mistake is treating LinkedIn like a broadcasting platform instead of a networking one. Posting without engaging, adding value, or building genuine relationships usually leads to slow growth and fewer opportunities.

the mistake that i think is made by many is the fact that the emphassis is laid on gaining atention rather than building trust. people tend to do everything to increase the level of visibility of their profiles but ignore some simple elements such as commenting, supporting others nd haviing conversations.
 
I've noticed that many people on LinkedIn make the mistake of not engaging enough with others. Engagement is one of the best ways to build connections and attract attention, yet many people overlook this important factor.
 
One of the imp mistakes that i have observed is people using LinkedIn more like a stage to put up a show than to actually document their own personal thought processess. They have all sorts of great advice posted but lack any experience in terms of their profile, commnts, and discussionns.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is treating LinkedIn like every other social platform. A lot of people focus on selling immediately instead of building relationships first. An incomplete profile, inconsistent posting, and sending generic connection requests without a personal message can also hold people back. In my experience, the people who get the best results are the ones who consistently share useful insights, engage with others, and build trust over time rather than looking for quick wins.
 
The biggest mistake is posting constantly but never replying to comments or starting real conversations. It makes people look like they only care about there own visibility :]

and being on linkedin when you aint actively looking for a job
 
People post only when they need something. The ones who grow consistently share useful insights, engage with others, and build relationships before they need opportunities. Consistency beats perfection every time.
 
I think the biggest mistake is treating LinkedIn like a place to just promote yourself instead of building real relationships and engaging with people.
