Where to learn SEO?

If you want to become great at SEO and turn it into a consistent income, I’d suggest learning from a combination of free resources, hands-on practice, and real projects.

Start with the fundamentals: keyword research, search intent, on-page SEO, technical SEO, content creation, and link building. Some great places to learn are Google Search Central, Ahrefs Blog & YouTube, Semrush Academy, and SEO communities where professionals share case studies.

But the biggest shortcut is practice. Build your own website or offer SEO help to small businesses, test what works, analyze results, and keep improving. SEO is a field where real-world experience often matters more than certificates.

Once you have proven results, you can leverage those skills through freelancing, consulting, affiliate websites, managing SEO for businesses, or even building your own content sites that generate passive income.

Be patient though — becoming truly good at SEO usually takes 6–12 months of consistent learning and experimentation, but it can become a very valuable high-income skill.

Thank You for the detailed reply. I am more than happy to put the time in as I think it can be a very useful skill for me long term.

If I were you, Id go to get some expirience working in a seo company. SEO is all about the practice and by just reading forums or whatever you won't be able to achieve it. You need to practice a lot and to learn from teamleads.

I would like to learn how to be great at SEO in order to then leverage my skills for a regular consistent income.
Where is best to learn this please?
Write to me, and I'll give you instructions and I can even teach you the basics if you need it

Forget courses for now. Here's what actually works:
Buy a cheap domain. Get basic shared hosting. Set up a simple WordPress blog in any niche you find interesting.
Then just try to rank it.
Pick keywords. Write content. Submit your sitemap to Google Search Console. Watch what happens.
Google Search Console will teach you more than any paid course ever could. You will see which pages get impressions. Which ones get clicks. Where you are ranking and why. What's broken. What's working.
That feedback loop is priceless. And it's free.
You will naturally start asking real questions. Why is this page not ranking? Why did traffic drop? How do I get backlinks? And because you're asking from real experience, the answers actually stick.
BHW threads and the Ahrefs blog become 10x more useful when you have a live site to apply things to.
Start small. One post a week. One keyword at a time.
Six months in, you will know more practical SEO than people who spent $500 on courses. And you will have something to show clients.

That's the path. :)

Just spend a few weeks reading the pinned threads and guides here on BHW. There is more than enough free info to get you started

for the basics watch a youtube course. then, bhw is the best place to learn the latest seo. just read people's threads here to learn the latest trends.

the absolute best free places to start are Ahrefs Academy (their YouTube course is gold for keyword research and content strategy) and LearningSEO.io by Aleyda Solis but don't just consume courses like a dead robo

Google's own SEO Starter Guide is the best place to start. It's free and straight from the source.

After that, Semrush Academy and Ahrefs blog have solid free courses. Once you have all these knowledge, you can also browse BHW for real experience, trips and ideas from other users.

Practice on your own site or a friend's of what your learn, Nothing beats hands-on experience.

I am overwhelmed by the amount of responses. Thank You all so much! Good to know there is such a helpful community here!!

watch youtub and practice in chat gpt by asking questions.

The quickest way to learn SEO is to build your own site. guides are great but nothing beats ranking real pages making mistakes and learning what worked or did not work. That is how you learn skills that client will actually pay for.

I use claude and chatgpt to learn about things that i still miss while doing seo.
I just started creating website's from scratch, so i am learning a lot, from a developer pov regarding SEO all through these ai models.

The only way to learn SEO that works is to rank a site yourself. It could be your own site or that of a client, as you try to rank it, you'll figure out a lot of things that no one can ever teach you.

Exactly. When you are learning something new, you should spend a lot of hours on Gemini or Chatgpt or Claude asking and researching the problem or the process.

You already here on the best place to learn anything about SEO both Black Hat and White Hat, take sometimes to surfing around and you'll find a lot.
