Did the last google update hit anyone else hard?

Hey all,
Just curious if anyone ese had noticed strange changes since the latest google update.
A few of my pages lost visibility even though i had not changes anything major. Traffic dropped, some keywords disappeared and a few competitors were affected too.
I am trying to figure out whether it is worth making changes right away or just waiting for things to settle.
What has been your experience with recent update? Did you recover and if so then what helped the most?

you are definitely not alone but i have seen a few sites lose traffic without any major changes on their side. Making too many adjustment immediately can make things harder to diagnose. I usually monitor competitors, reviewed affected pages and wait a bit before making changes unless there is an obvious issue.
 
Just wait it out for now. The May 2026 update is still rolling so any changes you make during this period just make it harder to read what's actually happening.

If you really feel like you need to do something, focus on content relevance first before anything else.

I believe you shouldn't make any change until the "waters" are clear. You are correct though many websites got hit by the update.
 
Yes, I've seen quite a few sites take a hit after the latest update especially those relying on thin content or aggressive link building.

On the flip side, sites with strong topical authority and quality backlinks seem to be holding up much better.
 
yeah i have seen similar after recent updates. in most cases it is not instant recovery but things fluctuate for a few weeks. i also noticed pages usually stabilize once google finishes re-evaluating content relevance and overall site trust so it is often better to wait and monitor before making big changes.
 
i would say Google updates are a reminder to keep improving the website instead of relying on one-time optimization. Regular content updates, a good user experience and a well-organized site seem to help in long run.

imo the most irritating thing is to lose rankings without making any changes at all.i would first try to establish whether those pages are even inddexed nd if there is a decline in rankings for all keywords or only some of them. In some cases, the cause may not be evident, which is y i would seek a pattern.
 
Not at all and recently i got more confidenec and fall in love with google as now its much more forgiving and super easy to rank..All my keywords are now ranking on chatgpt , google ai overview and i my call center girl said she got lot of calls asking a product which we don't even sell and they claimed its suggested by chatgpt lol that being said 90% traffic still on google and theres no changes on ranking this is from my primary project which target mainly handful tier 2 countries.. That being said i have no major ups and downs i just keep runnign all the campaigns like normal and now my biggest challange is manitaning my tier 1 with account management lol other than that i am good

I have found that I do not make any change immediately after an update becuz sometime they come back by themselves later. are the drops in ranking affecting your whole site or are they specific to certain page /keywords?

Yep.., sites do take real traffic hit after updates, while others see little change or even gain. Imo , check search console and then compare affected pages before making changes. If rankings still fluctuating, give it some time rather than changing everything at once.

I would not necessarily rush to address all those lost pages right away but rather take a looks at gsc to find out whether some shifts occurred on impressions for other search queries.
 
I'd check Search Console to see whether the drop is across the whole site or just a few pages. If competitors are seeing the same thing, I'd give it some time before making big changes and look for patterns first.

I do not does everything at once, truth be told i ve seen pages go down and up again without changes being made before. First, see which pages went down in GSC by keyword.
 
Panicked and rewrote a page once during an update. jaanny's point about pages dropping and rising again with no changes stopped me touching anything until I'd checked GSC by keyword.
 
Don’t rewrite pages in a panic while rankings are still moving. Give it one to two weeks to settle.
