According to me, the biggest mistake people make on quora is focusing on links instead of answers.

You should try to stay within one niche and answer questions consistently. Over time, quora starts associating your profile with that topic, and your answers tend to get more visibility.

I would also suggest updating older answers from time to time. I have seen old answers pick up views again after being updated with better information.
