Just put the phone away lol
I know what you mean!
Without a game or heading to the snooker club, I just spend my time turning my attention to one of the many other screens that take up space in my home.
I look at the clock on the wall, and watch it for few mins and try not to think anything meanwhile
That seems similar to meditating. But does it have any benefits, or does your mind just go through your to-do list for tomorrow?
I should probably try it.
get a very good audio book, put it on your phone, put your headset on and listen while doing anything else, even chores around the house
That's a nice idea. It would probably make doing things in the house more exciting. Do you have any book recommendations to get started?
Yeah, screen fatigue hits hard. My favorite is long walks outside with no mobile phone at all, or just cooking and reading a good book.
Phone-free long walks seem really relaxing. I normally only hike during trips but hiking locally isn't bad, it's a good habit.
Cooking is a good idea too, but I'm way better at getting takeout than making food!
Listen to songs, every 2-3 hrs once have a small walk.
I like that you break up your day like that. I usually just sit at my desk and work for hours and hours with no breaks.
Do you listen to music to clear your head? If so, what do you listen to?
Haven't used phone for 1 week because i forgot it at friends place. Best time ever.
Now I'll keep with that no phone daily. Real friends know where to reach me (Viber, messages which i can reply from my laptop)
Accidentally leaving something behind seems to be an effective way to break the cycle. Since I already use Telegram on my computer, I think it makes sense to keep all conversations on my desktop and not on my phone. Now I can enjoy the peace and quiet.
I get why people think that's a winning combo. What kind of books do you like to read to get a little "you" time?
I hear music . And i figured out that collecting things also helps me to distract my mind.
Music is a good way to take a break. The collecting part is fun to think about. I am always on the lookout for new PC parts and gaming mice, but I have yet to start collecting something for real.
What are you collecting, though?
I just close my eyes 2mins and see outside view from my seat. talk with my team.
It’s a good idea to take a break from looking at a screen to give your eyes a rest. Since I work from home, I take a break to walk away from my desk to talk to my family for a few minutes. It helps to break up the long, boring work day which can last for twelve hours.
Go to the sauna or therme (they're big spa complexes through europe), phones aren't allowed inside. ;-D
That sounds awesome . I think the only way I would ever stick to something like that is to have a strict no phone rule. I think I need to be disconnected.
I often go for a walk and it's working for me.
Walking looks like the most common answer here. I prefer to save my runs for the pitch on a Saturday and Sunday, but adding a walk to my daily routine can’t hurt.
When do you like to go for walks, before work in the morning or in the evening to relax after work?
Start some automated offline business where your only work is to collect cash at last.
Sounds awesome! Getting to collect money without staring at a screen would be such a nice break.
Do you know of any good ideas for a business that collects money that you could run offline?
That's the thing Jimbo you don't.
This is the kind of awful thing no one ever wants to admit. I thought maybe one of you had a way to get around this, but I guess we've all just been doomed to stay connected.
This video I found to be helpful for my eyes "Not medical advice just tips"
Thanks for sending the video. It definitely explains how screen time makes eye muscles feel like they're cramping into a fist.
Definitely appreciate the video for sure. Guess that also means I need to start going outside for at least 20 minutes a day with no phone so my eyes can get a break because there's no other way to fix it really.
To be totally honest, the transiion from a job comuter to games like Rust and CoD is only going to keep your central nervous system wired up
The technique I use is what's called tactile sensory shifts This means that I make something from scratch by slicing everything up (such as creating a fine mirepoix Alternatively, I take a walk while my phone is in my pocket, litening to my surroundings through audio
You were spot on about the video games. Going right from work into a game of Rust or Call of Duty probably keeps my brain from winding down and running at full speed instead.
The tactile shift idea sounds good! Rather than cooking at home, I would just stack up on food deliveries, but I can see how chopping up ingredients would be a good physical way to reset the mind. I will most likely add physical tasks of that sort to my routine in the evenings.
My favorite way to unplug is taking a long walk outdoors without my phone—it clears my mind far better than more screen time.
Looks like everyone agrees walking is the best answer. Currently I sneak away from work just to play a few frames over at the local snooker club. That's going to change though because I'm definitely going to start taking walks without my phone. I'm sure it'll help clear my head.
