hey,
i was looking through search console and noticed one of my pages is getting impressions for a keyword i never optimized for.
it is not even closely related to the main keyword i had in mind when creating the page.
has this happened to anyone else?
did you update the page to target that keyword more or just leave it as it was?

search console reveals some weird stuff. i've had pages rank for side keywords i never mentioned once. if clicks and position look decent, build supporting content around that term instead of rewriting the page. sometimes google accidentally shows u a traffic opportunity.

give some example. like which keyword the page is getting impressions and the topic of the page.
so I can give some insights into it.

I have seen this happen quite a few times. Google often ranks pages for keywords you never intentionally targeted because it understands the broader context of the content. If the keyword is relevant and getting decent impressions, it's usually worth updating the page to cover that topic more thoroughly. If it does not match the page's purpose, I'd leave it as is and keep the focus on the original topic.

Yes, this happens quite often. Google sometimes ranks a page for related or unexpected keywords based on the content and search intent it detects. If the new keyword is relevant and getting good impressions, I usually add a few natural mentions and expand the content around it. If it's not closely related, I leave the page as it is and focus on the original target keyword.

That’s a gift, so don't ignore it just add a subheader with that keyword and write a few sentences to give it a boost. If the keyword is totally different from your main topic, just make a new page and link to it instead of messing up what’s already working.

yeah i have seen this happens quite a few times.
sometimes google understands a page differently than we do and starts showing it for related searches. if the keyword is relevant and getting impressions then i usually add a bit more content around it rather than making major changes to the page.

I have seen this situation at one of the primary client sites. We just optimized the content slightly for that keyword, and the site saw good conversion at that time. If you have this situation, then it depends on your site whether it's an e-commerce, affiliate, or information-related site.

So just check that keyword position and wait for a few days, and then optimize the page content if you are interested in

seen this quite often in search console. in a few cases, those unexpected keywords ended up bringing more impressions than the original target keyword. if the search term is relevant then i usually add a small section covering it naturally. if it has nothing to do with the page then i just leave alone and keep monitoring it.

I have found my pages ranking for home page keywords. and home page ranking for keywords of inner pages. Because sometimes that inner page's title is mentioned in home page.

Other than that, sometimes my tags got ranked in wordpress (it was long ago)
