"Hey BHW family,

I’m currently developing a custom security tool for startups (focused on automated secret/API key scanning to prevent data breaches). I’m at the stage where I need to define my offer and outreach strategy, and I’d love to get some input from those of you with B2B experience.

Specifically, I’m looking for advice on:

  1. Product Packaging: What specific 'deliverables' do companies actually value most? Is it just the scan report, or do they want ongoing monitoring and API integrations?
  2. Pricing Strategy: For a startup, what’s a realistic pricing model? Should I go for a 'per-scan' fee, or a monthly 'SaaS subscription' model? What price point have you found to be the 'sweet spot' for small-to-medium businesses?
  3. Outreach: What’s the most effective way you’ve found to get a response from CTOs or IT Managers? Cold emailing, LinkedIn, or something else?
I want to build something that actually solves a painful problem. Your insights on what works and what to avoid would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,David Miller"

Most small startups use Claude to build internal tools these days, but if you could top that I think there is a chance, but for the outreach, you could use cold emailing but the reply rate is brutal since most of the emails are scraping through the same sources, and tech companies are getting ton of product marketing emails these days. But this not a impossible goal tho, you could find like small startups that does not get much of attention and target them. Eg: low engagement producthunt startups or recently seeded companies from the crunchbase. But do not rely on the cold email only, you need to have a cold calling funnel too. Good luck on your product :)
