Comments on blogs useful?

Not on your own blog but comments on Reddit are absolute gold for SEO and AI.

Still not much of a SEO factor but if people actually comment on the post, it will give it some ‘life' and engagement.

complete waste of time in 99.99% of cases

depends a lot on the niche honestly. ran a couple sites in the finance space and comments were dead unless I literally seeded the first 2-3 myself to get the ball rolling. once people see an empty comment box they assume nobody reads it and skip.

the reddit point above is real though. parking your stuff in active threads pulls way more than your own comment section ever will these days, and google seems to love that signal lately. on your own blog id treat comments as a trust thing not traffic... new visitor sees a few real replies and the author actually responding, it makes the post feel alive. but counting on them for rankings is a waste of time at this point.

I think blog comments still have value when they're genuine and relevant to the discussion. They may not provide the SEO benefits they once did, but they can help build relationships, increase visibility, and encourage engagement within a community.

niche communites yes, big blogs no. Generic comments are invisible, specific one occasionally spark real replies.

I think blog comments can still help with engagement and community building, especially in active niches. They may not have a direct SEO impact, but meaningful discussions can build trust, encourage repeat visits, and give you ideas for future content. The key is having real conversations, not spam comments.

try to engage in active blogs with useful comments. Post as your brand or brand representative. don't go for link building through blog comments. go for brand building.
