What can be the major reason Google is not indexing pages on a website?

I have been working on a website for the last few months and noticed something amazing. There are no indexing errors in Google Search Console, the pages are crawlable, robots.txt looks fine, and the sitemap has already been submitted.

The content is unique and the pages technically correct, but Google still refuses to index that pages.

Has anyone experienced this situation where everything looked fine from a technical SEO perspective, but Google still didn't index the pages? What were the actual reasons behind it, and how did you fix it?

What do you mean by "There are no indexing errors in Google Search Console" if, in reality, you are saying that these pages are ultimately not indexed by Google?

Unique content and technically correct pages are not an automatic guarantee of indexation. Pages with thin content, content that provides little or no value, or content that is not original (which is not the same thing as unique) often will not be indexed by Google. This has been the trend for roughly the last two years. Since the widespread use of AI chatbots for content creation, Google has become much more selective about indexing new pages. As a result, many pages with weak content may never get indexed at all.

Even when everything looks technically fine, this can still happen since indexing often depends more on how valuable the page appears, how well it’s linked internally and the overall strength of the site so some pages simply don’t get indexed right away
 
I have seen this happen when the pages have weak content low authority or do not offer enough value compared to similar pages already indexed by Google Evan if everything is technically correct Google may delay indexing if it does not see the pages as important building a few quality backlinks and improving internal linking often helps
 
If technicals are perfect, it is usually a lack of topical authority or internal linking. Google might crawl it but choose not to index if it feels the site hasn't built enough trust yet. Try pushing more strong internal links to those pages. :)
 
indexing is not about getting the technical aspect right, it is about the content you have. Trying posting longer content with more relevant keywords. if you are just posting quickly-prompted ai walls of text Google is very good at suppressing that
 
Yeah. In a lot of situations, the issue isn't technical SEO alone but more content quality plus site authority. I’ve noticed that pages stayed out of Google’s index even when they were crawlable because they had thin substance, weak inner linking, duplicated themes , or not much tangible value. When we upgraded the writing, added more meaningful internal links, and increased authority, things usually moved and Google ended up indexing them after a while.
 
cannibalization, if google find pages are similar, Google put them discovered list.
 
I've seen this happen quite a few times. If the technical side is already covered, I'd look at whether Google actually sees enough value in those pages compared to similar content already in the index.

I've seen this happen a few times. In my case, the issue wasn't technical SEO at all. The pages were indexed only after improving content quality, adding internal links from already indexed pages, and getting a few quality backlinks. Sometimes Google simply doesn't see enough value or demand to prioritize indexing new pages. Patience and stronger site signals made the difference for me.

Have you tried any indexing tools? Sometimes Google can be slow indexing.
 
I have seen people mention this issue quite a lot. Sometimes everything looks fine technically, but Google still doesn't index pages because it doesn't see enough value in them yet.
 
Look in your GSC for the "Discovered - currently not indexed" status, which normally means Google knows the pages are there, but hasn't dedicated the crawl budget to rendering them. To fix this, build 3-4 strong internal links from your best pages that are already indexed and indexed well, to give it some immediate authority. Also, change the content on those unindexed pages slightly to give a new crawl signal.
 
@Mark_Veteran covered the GSC status check well.
A single external backlink from an already indexed page is often the fastest indexing trigger. google discovers and prioritises pages it finds through followed links from trusted sources. a page with zero external links pointing at it relies entirely on googlebot finding it through your sitemap or internal links. that's slower. one contextual backlink from a real indexed site can get a stubborn page indexed within days. internal links help but external links from trusted domains tell google this page is worth visiting right now.
 
I'm having similar issues where google is refusing to index my articles, but I do notice that it indexes the tags/categories pages instead. Solution could be in that case to put 'noindex' in the headers of those tags/categories pages, but the issue should fix itself when there are more articles linked to each category/tag, instead of only a single article -> google sees that as thin content so the category/tag pages beat the actual articles
 
One thing nobody mentioned... how old is the site? If its a fresh domain Google will sit on pages for weeks even months before deciding theyre worth indexing, doesnt matter how clean everything is. Had a site last year that just refused to index anything for like 6 weeks then suddenly took 40 pages in two days. Nothing changed on my end.

Also worth checking if the pages are actually different enough from each other. @Fresh Money point about thin category pages is real but i've also seen near-duplicate articles get filtered where Google indexes one and quietly drops the rest even tho they pass the "unique" check. Run a couple through and compare, sometimes you find theyre 70% the same skeleton.

The backlink trick @MajestySEO mentioned does work but dont overthink it, even a tweet or a drop on an already-crawled forum post can be enough to nudge googlebot. cheap way to test before you go buy links.
 
This still happens with me. for me it happens because of low quality content or similar content that i publish. If Google doesn't see enough value in my page that i published it won't index my page.
I usually publish image heavy content that way it makes my page unique.

Yes, good points on both.
The sandbox effect on new domains is reasonable and way more common. the near duplicate filtering is underrated too, google indexes the strongest version and quietly drops the rest even when content passes uniqueness checks.

On the tweet point, yes works for nudging googlebot but the difference is consistency. a tweet gets crawled once. a contextual backlink from an active indexed site keeps passing signals every time googlebot recrawls that page. both work for indexing but one keeps working longer.
 
If technical factors and robots.txt are fine, the issue is likely a lack of internal link equity or low perceived content value. Google often crawls pages but leaves them unindexed if the domain lacks overall authority or if the pages feel too isolated. Try linking to them directly from your highest-ranking posts to force Google to re evaluate their importance. :)
 
in my experience the biggest reason is that google doesn't see enough value in the pages yet even unique content can struggle if it's too similar to existing results or lacks strong internal links and authority signal
