Is YouTube testing content in “waves” instead of linear growth?

youtube values stability i guess that thing happened intentional to bring you back

I’m not entirely sure what you mean, but if you’re suggesting trying out different concepts on the same channel, then no, YouTube prefers linear growth.

Yeah, that’s 100% how it works now, especially for Shorts and newer channels. Growth is rarely linear.

YouTube tests your video in waves. It gives you a small batch of impressions, monitors the data, and if the retention and CTR are good, it chills for a bit before pushing it to a wider wave of audience. Also, if a seed audience suddenly starts engaging with similar topics weeks later, the algorithm can easily resurrect an old, inactive video and give it a massive spike out of nowhere.

definitely waves. i’ve had shorts and long form videos sit at 50 views for a whole month and then randomly hit 50k in 48 hours. it usually triggers when a competitor channel goes viral and youtube needs more content to fill the 'up next' sidebar for that specific audience traffic

Yes, youtube feeds traffic in batches, the algorythm tests a video on a small seed audience, pauses to analyze satisfaction signals, and then triggers the next wave if the data holds on.

i dont think its test waves, it usually happens because a content niche has become popular in search results, and Google is trying to get as much traffic from the trend as possible.

For long form videos they do absolutely.

Especially on a new channel.

They test with an initial seed audience where they use your videos metadata and audio transcripts to pin point the initial audience.

Then they track ctr and watch time and if it's high then they push it to more people.

If ctr and watch time are high then it usually takes about 3 days and you'll see massive spikes in impressions in Browse features and suggested videos.
