Is TikTok creativity or just repetition?

Most viral trends look like variations of the same idea. Does TikTok encourage originality, or is it just a cycle of copying what already works?
In my opinion it's a cycle o copying what already works but this is done through heavy editing of the viral videos and reposting them.

TikTok is mostly editing or mixing creativity and repetition is part of it

I think it's kind of good because people engage more with content they already recognize. Trends give viewers something familiar, which can help videos get attention faster.

Tiktok is imagination. You can make money with already existing content IF you apply your own "secret sauce"

In my opinion, TikTok is all about creativity. It’s a platform where you can discover countless ideas that have the potential to spark new trends.

It feels like a mix of both. TikTok rewards content that keeps people watching, so successful formats get copied quickly. Original ideas can still go viral, but trends often spread faster because the algorithm already knows audiences engage with them.

It's a bit of both. TikTok likes new ideas, but it also loves content that follows formats that already work.
Most trends are just people taking the same idea and putting their own twist on it.

I think it is a mix of both Trends often start with an original idea and then thousands of creators put their own spin

I think TikTok is a platform full of creativity, where many unique and innovative ideas emerge.

I feel like it's just repetition. I see the same type of content over and over again, maybe with a little change here and there, but mostly just the same thing. People see what's working/trending and then quickly jump on the bandwagon to try and get the same results.

The platform kinda trains people to copy, whether they admit it or not. Original idea gets the first push, then everyone else tests the same hook with different face/music/caption until it burns out. For marketing pages especially, pure originality is usually slower... taking a proven format and changing the angle for your niche works better most times. TikTok rewards retention, not who came up with it first.

I think tiktok is more about remixing than fully new ideas. Original stuff can work, but most viral trends are just people copying and adding small changes.

I would say it is both. If you're having trouble with coming up with original ideas, try compiling a list of popular creators in your niche, then look for some of the best performing videos of each creator in the last 6 months, then just copy their style with your own twist. If you keep doing that, eventually you will catch up

Original content can still win, but copying trends feels easier for fast reach. Platform kinda pushes repeat formats.

TikTok rewards both creativity and repetition, trends create visibility, but creators who add a unique twist, perspective, or storytelling angle are the ones who stand out and build lasting audiences.

I think TikTok is a mix of both Many trends get repeated because they work but creative creators often find new ways to present similar ideas The platform rewards trends yet originality is usually what helps content stand out in the long run

I find that videos that go viral on TikTok are those involving dancing and lip-syncing, or sometimes using cute animals.
I think TikTok doesn't value creativity anymore. I still prefer YouTube.

It's 100% a cycle of copying. TikTok’s algorithm cares about watch time and retention, not originality
Don't reinvent the wheel, just spin it better :))

I think TikTok is still the leading platform for creative content and remains the place where many major trends first emerge.
