Whats the point of buying backlinks anymore if google removes them?

I just read that google has been removing certain backlinks if they think they are from PBN etc.

makes sense because I saw a bunch of mine disappear from search console.

whats the point of buying PBN anymore?

Just because a backlink disappears from Search Console doesn't always mean Google removed it. Search Console has never shown every link. PBNs can still work in some cases, but they seem a lot riskier and less effective than they used to be. If you're going to use them, quality and relevance probably matter much more now than simply building a large network.
 
The PBN links are less effective now because google is able to identify the low quantity links and ignore them. So, buying or creating PBN links are riskier now.
 
Because of this, many people are moving away from relying purely on PBNs. If you are using them, it probably makes more sense to think of them as a short-term boost rather than a long-term asset. Diversifying your link profile with different sources can help reduce the impact when Google decides to discount certain links.

Low quality pbn is risky .Relevance and natural looking link are a much safer long term play
