Why do some TikTok accounts grow with average content?

Yeah honestly, on TikTok its mostly about posting regular and hitting the right trend, not always top quality stuff.
 
It’s all about Watch Time Velocity and the FYP seed audience. TikTok tests each video on a small group of people first; if that “average” video has a high-stress hook or relatable flaw that makes people want to comment or rewatch, it triggers the algorithm to push it to a wider group.

High production videos don’t do well here . They look like ads and users swipe them off immediately . Average content feels like a friend’s video and boosts initial retention signals organically .

it happens for regular content upload and tiktok algorithm. honestly tiktok may viral low qualityful content sometimes. if your upload content every single day your content may viral on tiktok
 
its all about retention and people watching till the end, the algorithm rewards that more than good quality.
 
Accounts that focus on trending topics or specific niches can grow faster than high-quality but general content because the algorithm boosts trend-aligned videos.
 
I think those videos are frequently recommended because they align with current trends, and the creators have been posting content consistently.
 
Growth is often driven more by consistency, watch time, engagement, and algorithm signals than just video quality alone.
 
ya bro tik tok is all about hooks and consistency, if u post daily and catch people in first 3 sec algoritm drops views even if content quality is totally normal

I've wondered the same thing. Sometimes it's not the production quality that wins, but timing, topic choice, consistency, and how well the video keeps people watching. A simple video with strong retention can outperform a much better-produced one.
 
I think the way they're separating average content from high-quality content is a bit flawed. What seems average or uninteresting to one person might actually be exactly the kind of content someone else enjoys.

The current trend is that viewers want videos that are authentic and relatable, without too much special effects. I also have to work on 10 topics before I get 2-3 good ones.
 
What may seem like ordinary content to you could actually be something that many people enjoy. Success also depends partly on luck, if the video gets picked up by the algorithm and recommended to a wider audience, its views can grow very quickly.
 
Yeah it can feel like that, Sometimes simple videos just fit the algorithm better and get pushed faster.

In my experience, content quality is important, but it's not the only factor behind TikTok growth. I've seen very simple videos get millions of views because they had a strong hook in the first few seconds, matched a trending topic, or generated high engagement.


The algorithm seems to care a lot about watch time, completion rate, rewatches, shares, comments, and overall audience response. A highly produced video can still underperform if people scroll past it quickly, while an average-looking video can go viral if it keeps viewers watching.


Consistency also plays a role because it gives the algorithm more data and more opportunities to test your content. So I'd say growth is usually a combination of content quality, audience interest, timing, consistency, and algorithm signals rather than any single factor alone.
 
I also have a strong feeling that sometimes those beautifully produced videos are far inferior to the results of a casual snapshot with poor image quality. This is also a problem with TikTok's traffic.
 
Not always about content quality TikTok heavily rewards watch time retention engagement and consistency sometimes a simple video with a strong hook gets pushed more than a high-quality video the algorithm cares more about how people react to the content than how published it looks
 
I've seen that happen a lot. Some of the fastest-growing accounts I've come across weren't doing anything special. Meanwhile, people spending hours editing videos were getting nowhere. Sometimes the algorithm just does its own thing.
