What Actually Working in White Hat SEO in 2026?

topical authority has been my biggest win so far this year.
sites covering a subject comprehensively seem to gain traction faster.

Updating and improving existing content still works really well. many ranking gains come from refreshing old pages.

yes i focus on backlinks
 
Topical authority is king! Also I use AI to write content for me and then I humanize it myself. Google updates sometimes hurt other times they don't affect anything for me.
 
Creating topical authority and a well-structure site improves relevence, trust, and long-term ranking.
 
The biggest wins I have seen come from improving pages that already have some visibility. Better intent matching, clearer sections, and thoughtful internal links often move faster than publishing another batch of articles.

I mean, backlinks still matter, but a link cannot rescue a page that does not answer the query well. I would test one cluster at a time, record the changes, and give each update enough time before drawing conclusions.
 
I still use backlinks, but I focus more on relevance and quality rather than volume.
For AI content, I use it as a starting point, then edit and improve it with real insights to make it more valuable for users.

What i have found to be somewhat over looked is pruning and restructuring, rather than creating any additional content. There have been instances where a website benefited after pruning some web pages that were spreading themselves thin on a certain topic and allowing the another content to become more accessible for crawling. This is something that i find to be more genuinely white hat.

I believe that what is under appreciated about white hat SEO is site coherence as opposed to the optimisation of individual pages. The pages can be written well, but the overall effect may be hampered by poor quality surrounding content or conflicting site architecture. establishing topical connections between the pages has proven more useful to me than an not focused effort at creating additional pages or links.
