Hey everyone
I’m running Taboola campaigns and getting a pretty good CTR, but the problem is users are bouncing very fast after clicking.
I’m trying to understand what’s going wrong and if it’s related to the landing page or traffic quality.

What I’m seeing:
  • Good CTR from Taboola ads
  • Very high bounce rate on landing page
  • Low time on site / weak engagement
Now I’m wondering if the landing page should be different for native traffic compared to Google traffic. Maybe users from Taboola expect a different style or flow?
Has anyone dealt with this before? Would you optimize the same page or create a separate native-friendly landing page?
Any insights would be really helpful
Thanks.

You definitely need a separate landing page. Google users are actively searching to buy, but Taboola users are just reading the news and expect a story, not a hard sell. Switch to an advertorial or content-first style page to match their mindset and stop the bounces.

Native traffic usually behaves differently than Google traffic, so a separate landing page often works better for Taboola campaigns. Try making the page more engaging and “native-style” with a softer presell approach, faster hook, and messaging that matches the ad creative.

to be honest i think you are probably dealing with a mismatch between intent and landing page flow rather than CTR being the issue.

You need a different landing page. It should look like a Fox News , cnn or msnbc news web page because that's what user was reading when he/she clicked on your ad. Including the content, if should look like a news an interview or some journalist report.

Yeah, 100% sounds like a landing page mismatch. Taboola traffic is super click-happy but usually wants quick, easy content. Long-form Google-style pages don’t work as well. I’d test a simpler, native-style page, maybe with big visuals and a clear next step. In my experience, even just matching the ad tone on the landing page drops bounce a lot.

Good CTR with high bounce rate normally means the ad is creating curiosity, but the landing page is not matching the expectation. I first test a page that continues the exact same angle and tone as the ad.

Instead of selling right away, send Taboola traffic to an Advertorial a simple, text-heavy page that looks like a news article. Hook them with a story that matches your ad, introduce your product halfway through as the solution, and place your sales button at the very bottom. This transforms casual readers into warmed-up, high-intent buyers before they even see your offer.

It would be good to know exactly how high is your CTR.
Too high CTR anywhere except search ads usually means that you get a lot of misclicks, and the bounce rate is high because users close your website immediately.
If they actually close your website immediately, then your issue is misclicks. If they spend at least a few seconds on your page, then it's a mismatch between you user expectation and the content of your page.

sounds more like a landing page mismatch than a CTR problem, native traffic often needs a different flow than googlee traffic, test a page built specifically for that traffic instead of using the exact same one

High CTR + high bounce rate often points to a mismatch between the ad angle and the landing page experience

Yeah native traffic is way colder than Google, so same LP usually won’t hold. Try a more “content-style” prelander first, Taboola users need warming up before the offer. Also check targeting + placements, sometimes the traffic itself is just low intent.

High CTR + high bounce on Taboola usually means clickbait mismatch or weak landing page relevance/speed, so fixing ad-to-page message match and improving page UX mostly reduces bounce.

yeah your landing page probs needs a native-style prelander, taboola clicks hate straight sales pages.

It’s almost always a clickbait vs. reality issue. Taboola traffic is impulse-driven, so if your ad headline is super spicy but your landing page looks like a boring corporate Google AdWords page, people bail instantly.

For native, you need an "advertorial" style landing page, think a catchy, story-driven blog post or news article that bridges the gap between the ad and the offer. Also, check your publisher report in Taboola and cut out the trash widget IDs that are just draining your budget with bot-like clicks.

Look at your Taboola dashboard under "Publisher/Site Reports." Find the sites eating your budget with 0 seconds on-site time, and block those Publisher IDs immediately.

Most of the time its a landing page mismatch, native traffic usually needs a softer advertorial style page instead of a direct sales page.

Over 80% of Taboola traffic is mobile, so a slow loading time or bad mobile layout causes instant bounces. Heavily optimize the page speed and design a mobile-first layout to keep these casual scrollers engaged.

Yeah Taboola traffic is more curiosity based so same page won’t always work, try making a native style landing page with softer hook and better match to ad message.

Also check page speed and mobile experience. Native traffic is heavily mobile, and even a small delay can increase bounce rates significantly.
