Do hashtags even matter anymore on Twitter X?

I barely see any difference when I use them vs not using them.
What’s your take?

In my opinion the difference is too small when you use them. If you already have an audience it doesn't matter that much anyway. Very few people will see your account on X from the hashtags you use.
 
No, Elon himself said hashtags mean nothing and that he’s planning to get rid of it all and I’m sure Nikita is going to do it

I don't think hashtags are as important as they used to be but I wouldn't say they're completely useless either From what I've noticed the content itself seems to matter much more now A relevant hashtag can still help with visibility in some cases but relying on hashtags alone doesn't seem to have the same impact it did a few years ago
 
personally, I still consider it important, especially hashtags related to specific niches.
 
They dont at all, they dont even help the algorithm classify your post, they are just a legacy feature that Elon is still working on how to remove from the platform
 
Hashtags still help a little for discovery, but on X now the content, engagement, and timing matter way more than stuffing hashtags.
 
If you're going after trending topics, you can just mention the keyword without having to enter the # symbol before it. It'll still show up for users searching.
 
i stopped using them last year on my main accounts and saw zero drop in reach. @CyHead is spot on, the algorithm indexes the raw keywords anyway. only time i use them now is if im running a specific campaign and need to scrape the posts easily. otherwise its just a waste of character space.
 
one or two on a live event still pulls some eyes imo, like during a match or some big announcement when people are actively clicking the tag to follow along. outside of that yeah they do nothing for me on X anymore. i tested it on a couple accounts in the same niche, one with hashtags one without, posted similar stuff for like 3 weeks and the no hashtag one did slightly better if anything. probably the spammy look thing.

honestly id just run your own little test instead of trusting any of us, every niche behaves a bit different. but for general organic reach... nah, dont sweat it.
 
I barely use them now

content quality and engagement seem to matter a lot more than hashtags on X
maybe one relevant hashtag for a trend but stuffing them feels pointless these days
 
if you are trying to grow reach, hashtags dont matter. Unfortunately they were misused too much in the past, and X even plans to completely phase them out soon
